    marimacc:

Last time we were down there, we stayed at a cute little funky place called The Dive Inn.

    http://www.thediveinn.com/

Don't be scared off by the "adult" references; really, nothing was going on there when we were there, and it was pretty awesome to step out of the room into the pool.  However, be advised that it didn't have great amenities, so, no TVs in rooms, and no SUPER COLD hotel ac either.

Marimacc - you sly dawg!!  I'm impressed!

ASC, it's no OFF street parking.

Yea, make sure you check out the FAQ before reserving a room there.

    Roger that.

I must say, the place looks intruiguing.  In a sociology study sort of way, perhaps, but if I wan't a big prude I'd probably find it a fascinating place to stay.  But I am a big, big prude.

ASC, I thought the same thing. I don't like to be naked, I wear clothes unless I'm in the shower. Even living my myself, I wear shorts and a t-shirt to bed. You never know when you have to wake up in the middle of the night and take care of something. (Ok, so I need to stop going outside and looking around when I hear strange noises at night or checking on cars broken down in the street in front of my house at 4 A.M.)

Yeah I was reluctant to post it, because I guess they do have adult gatherings, but, when I was there, none of that went on at all, and I was thinking if you guys rented out all the rooms, then there wouldn't be any problems.  Just offering that as an option.

I have read this thread off an on since you posted it....  I think it is a "REALLY GOOD IDEA" but I say this with great regreat...  I am just too broke and in the midst of reclaiming a huge chunk of my life back from a pit of problems old associates helped get me into.

You have my best regards and wishes.

Alas, there is just no way I could attend an event like this at this time.

Hey, that's cool, my friend. We'll take well-wishes too :)  Well-wishes, prayers, kind words. If people can't come but want to bake cookies to send with us, we'll take those too :D

I should mention, I guess: if people want to help but cannot make it, and could afford to help monetarily, I don't think anyone will turn it down :) Don't send any money just yet, of course. But, just a post like yours, Alpha, makes me very very happy. All we have to do is help when it's possible for us to help, right? :)

I was thinking that too.  You're right...it would be a fun place for a large group to rent out, then agree on their own rules.  As long as there was no public sha-boing-boing, the whole "commune" vibe would be loads of fun.

    Hi folks.

Quick update: Gamers For Humanity now has its very own domain name: gamersforhumanity.org. I don't think it points anywhere yet--still dealing with my internet provider. Eventually it'll point to a website that I've been building this afternoon, although that website will be temporarily hosted on another server I already pay for...can't afford at the moment to give GFH it's own hosting account. Maybe someday. It should start pointing somewhere tomorrow, although there isn't much on the site yet even when the address does point to it.

I also set up a Paypal account for donations: donations@gamersforhumanity.org. I figure, if anyone wants to help out but can't make the trip, this is one way. Also, those of us who are going can try to spread the word ourselves, try to raise some funds. I have a nice and neat plan for tracking, competely transparently, all funds donated to the cause, so we can avoid any suspicions of 'funny business' with peoples' monies.

Anyway, that's the news. Hopefully, I'll have a couple more keen news updates in the next few days or so.

This is an awesome thing you're putting together Tom. I wish we could join in, but what with our wedding in March, time, money, and vacation days will be nonexistent.

But I would be happy to bake up some goodies and ship them to someone to take down with them. With luv from Cali. Keep us posted!

Thanks Pooka! Cookies would be awesome. I will nobly volunteer to carry them down to NOLA, ensuring that each and every cookie arrives safe and sound, without a single cookie missing. Honest. No, really, why are you shaking your head?

There was a car commercial on during football today, Harry Connick Jr. driving around the city, and finally arriving at Musicians' Village. Man, I really really hope we can get our work scheduled there.

    Hi all!

This just in: thanks to Adrian (Swartout, president of Gen Con), we Gamers for Humanity will very soon--as soon as it's set up--have our own sub-forum here at the Gen Con Community! Sweet!

I know, we're not a gaming group, running events at the Con, but we're a charitable organization and we'll be putting it to good use, so, give us a break :)
