The Simpsons probably just did the impossible

..they did an episode so disgustingly disrespectful to the fans, that I may be done with the series for good.

Last night was the very first time ever that I stopped the DVR and seriously considered deleting the rest of the episode without even viewing it.

Last night's episode re-defined atrocious and showed a BIG lack of regard to the longtime fans of the show.

For those who missed it, the series has completely shown that the last 19 years of the series no longer count.

    • The whole spiel about Homer and Marge when they were in their twenties, done SOOOO many times in the series, now inexplicably got bumped up two decades. Now they were a young couple in the 90s. Never mind the fact that the series debuted (with Homer and Marge, even with the damn floating timeline, being in their late 30s at the youngest) several years before that.
    • Homer INVENTED Grunge music, huh? Well I guess that explains how Homer was out of his element in the Lollapalooza episode, right? It's crap like this that epitomizes the lack of regard to the longtime fans.
    • The Curt Cobain stuff was BEYOND tasteless. Even Family Guy wouldn't go that far.
    • The Color Me Badd group was an UTTER lift off the B-Sharps storyline. Nauseatingly sloppy.
    • The old Homer-achieves-worldwide-renoun-over-a-few-weeks-and-inexplicably-is-a-working-stiff-again angle is TIRED, TIRED TIRED. Also, a buffoon is only a buffoon if he's a bungler. Homer seems to have supreme sublime talent in any field, week to week. It's getting annoying.

I won't even use the cliche "Worst. Episode. Ever!" Even though it easily was.

I've got it DVR'ed but haven't watched it yet, but wouldn't this be one of the last episodes made before the WGA strike? They could have been phoning it in to make a point.  Or maybe it wan't even finished, and JoeBob the janitor had to finish the script or something...

Yeah, I thought it was pretty lame as well. They've been around since the 80's so making them suddenly teens in the 90's seemed really stupid.

I don't think the show has jumped the Shark yet. And there's been enough contradiction to their own source material in the past to not be too bugged by this. Plus I think Ripley's got something here, that'd be just the type of thing they'd do.

C'mon, the show's been on for nearly 20 years.  Even Groening has to mail it in every once in a while. Cool

And what's the whole deal with Lisa and Bart STILL being kids?  I mean, come on, that's not, like, reality!!

I don't think Matt Groening has had anything to do with the show in years. Fox owns the rights to the characters and has made it clear that they're going to keep the show on the air as long as they can until they run it into the ground.

When the characters don't age, you have to expect at least some retconning. Comic books do it all the time. The show has been on for almost 20 years and the characters are older than many of the people who watch the show. They need to do something to make it relevant to younger viewers.

My advice is to be happy for what you had instead of being sad for what you've lost.

Re: The Simpsons probably just did the impossible

They had a previous episode showing Homer and Marge recently married during the 80s and commented on the timeline not working as part of the joke. I think that is the same thing they are doing here.

Homer has had, what, ninety three different variations of his childhood, not to mention how he and Marge have met over the years, not to mention the different ways.......

I was never a huge fan but I lost interest in "The Simpsons" years ago..... Can't believe that they went lower than "Family Guy"  did not realize that was possible!

Re: The Simpsons probably just did the impossible

Personally, I see this a parody shot, at the atrocious Spiderman Arc, "One More Day".  Hey at least The Simpsons didn't try explaining it all away by saying "It's Magic", like a Mr. Joe "Wince Russo" Quesada.
