Official New Orleans Trip Sign Up Thread

Okay, this is the time to start committing to the trip :)

Please only post in this thread if you are committing to go on the trip. If you're still 'iffy', you can indicate that elsewhere. I'd like to keep this thread only to people who are saying "Yes I will be going", so I can get an accurate count.

Nothing terrible will happen to you if you commit and something unexpected comes up later and you can't make it, of course. But no maybe's in this thread. :D

(Mods, can we get some sticky love here? Err...that doesn't sound right...)

    Count me in.

Also put in where you live so we might be able to arrange carpooling on the way.

Good idea. I'm going to start a carpooling/caravaning thread once people start signing on officially, but it's a good idea to have a general idea from the start of where people are.

Re: Official New Orleans Trip Sign Up Thread

Come one guys, there are only 3 of us listed as confirmed? 2 of the 3 are Tom and his wife... The event is only a couple of months away. I'm not trying to twist any arms or pressure anyone into doing something they are not ready for... (ok, that sounded like a breakup line from so many relationships)... Just a reminder in case this fell through the cracks in our way too busy lives.

If you can make it, sign your name on the line. Don't mind those flames and yes, it must be done in blood. :D

Ok, so it doesn't have to be in blood, that will come when we start passing out the powertools.

As I just posted on one of the other pertinent threads, I just found out I have a court date set for April 11th. We'll see if the lawyer gets everything wrapped up in the mean time and I still get to go.

I am going to have to withdraw. Tom, I got your email Monday, and held off replying until I had my interview, but...yes, yours truly has just gotten hired.

I am SO sorry (except in a way, I'm not, since I've been trying to get a better job ever since getting my BS), but I can't even contribute funds toward helping someone go in my place.

atstepchild was totally railroaded by an overzealous jerk of a sheriff.  Even our Cop friends say he should sue for harassment.  I personally am going to donate to Andy for his defense fund although he doesn't know it yet.Big Smile

Ok, due to some very generous donations, I'm in. Flight is booked, so the Wench will be in NOLA.

Re: Official New Orleans Trip Sign Up Thread

Huzzah! The Wench will not be stopped!

I am exhausted. I spent all day worrying and planning, and I have neglected to thank everyone for all the assistance they've already given. I mean everyone. There have been people have have come through HUGE in this whole thing, incredibly generous. They will get their due thanks, oh be sure of it :) But I am also very thankful for the sincere 'keep your spirits up' messages too, and for the people who want to go but are being forced not to. We can't control a lot of what happens to us, sometimes. I am seriously sad to hear that you can't make it, Braewe. But I, too, am happy about your job. I've been in the unemployed category before, it's not fun.

Atstepchild, I am still praying for a turnaround in the court case. Can your lawyer file a 'bad court thingy' to get the date pushed back? Make a motion of some kind? Call for recess? (I'm also praying for success in the case, of course...I don't want it pushed back and lost ;)

I am a tired, and very thankful, dude right now.

The moment he does that it costs him an hour of the lawyer's time (300+) and with lawyers that starts to add up quick.  I wish I could go with you guys but it's not possible.  I am going to help Andy out a little in hopes that he can still join you all.

Hey everyone. I am meeting with six (maybe seven) people tomorrow who are *very* interested in coming along with us...energetic college kids who will put us to shame with their energetic...energy. I will keep ya'all updated. The word is that "they majority are certain they will go".

Best laid plans of mice and men...

Every time I come across these threads, I wish I could make it down. The weeks before and after this are going to be so busy, it's ridiculous as it is... at this rate, that week might end up just the same.

Re: Official New Orleans Trip Sign Up Thread

I'm sad to hear you can't make it too, ATS. Make sure you set aside time for the Indy build. I'm thinking the Tuesday before the Con, at the moment.

In other news, I got the official "I'm in!" from a guy at a college I have been teaching at, and five other gals at the same college who I met with this morning. They are almost entirely certain, just waiting on word from an advisor or two (a couple of the girls want to turn the trip into some credit, through a cool program the college has). I'm pretty sure they're in, though. There's another girl from the same school who I'm waiting for word from, but I'm not sure about at the moment.

So, if the five girls are coming, and with the one guy who is coming, and the four of us from here, that's 10 people. And, there's a guy from my church who I'm working on...might be a good chance of talking him into it :)

    Prayers are being answered.

    OKAY!

I have the official word now. We have TEN people coming to New Orleans for the week. It's been a hectic week, but ten people is *awesome*. We've had some very generous donations through this whole effort, of time, of money, and of donated games and offers of road food. Thank you all.

I will be taking a bunch of pictures the whole time, and I'm working on setting up a blog to post to during the trip, so I'll keep you all updated.

At the moment, I'm tired, and headed for bed. But again, thank you to everyone who's helped out, offered words of support, or done anything else for this project. We're almost there :D
