Initial event catalog available for download!

    Here's the official announcement:

This year we are pleased to announce the early, phased release of Event Charts. Because we have improved our event review process we are now able to assign locations earlier and get event information out to you sooner. As more events are submitted and approved we will be releasing new event charts. Please know that these charts are in no way a complete reflection of all the events happening at Gen Con. The list will constantly be changing. Events submitted before the event submission deadline will be released at least one week prior to the start of event registration.

Due the large number of events we receive, that locations are subject to change throughout the event submission process as we juggle space. Locations will be confirmed in June.

We hope that by getting events charts out earlier, not only will it get you excited about what is happening but also help you plan your event schedule at Gen Con Indy 2008 “the best four days in gaming!”.

I've posted the "complete event catalog" files in the download section. I'll add the individual files for separate days and event types later, once we've added more events and are close to event registration.

We're trying to give everyone a look at the events we'll have at the show much earlier than we have in the past, but please remember that we will be constantly adding new events as they are submitted, reviewed and placed. This is by no means a complete listing of all the events - it's just most of the RPGs and seminars that were submitted during cycle 1. We're still working on the other event types, and then there is still cycle 2 and cycle 3, etc. I'll try to post a quick summary of what's new when we have a significant update.

If you don't see the event you're looking for, it may not simply not have been reviewed/placed yet - or it may not have been submitted. I encourage everyone who wants to see a certain game represented at the show to contact the publisher (or gaming group) to inquire about it.

Have at it - and the answer to the question of when we'll have more event info is "as soon as we can get it out to you.' Smile

I checked as well.  I don't think any Wednesday games will be listed until the locations are determined.  There will be Wednesday gaming though.

The Wednesday schedule likely won't be up for a little while yet - I'm concentrating on reviewing and placing events for the normal run of the covnention first, and once that's running nice and smoothly I'll be able to sort out final details for the Wednesday program.

So likely a few weeks yet.

Thanks Derek for this early heads up. The week scramble in the past has been tough between getting the list and registration when organizing with friends. Very happy about this even if it's just an early draft.

How often do you think the schedule will be updated, and what's the easiest way to find out when it is?

Well, there will be constant minor updates to individual events, but when we have a bit update, I'll try to let people know when we have a big update, but I"m hesitant to give any kind of regular public schedule right now Smile

Just a thought, is there a way to include a column for when an event was added/updated? That would make it easy to sort through the latest info.

Unfortunately, not really. It wouldn't be an easy addition and right now we don't have a whole lot of resources to spare to work on new features.

My advice is to just browse and check out the event list now, but don't dive too deep into building your schedule until after the cycle 3 events are released.

    But.

    But.

But that requires some self control!  I want to have my entire schedule planned by April...   Wink  Seriously though, thanks Derek for keeping us in the loop - I've forwarded the link to a bunch of fellow GenCon goers who aren't forumites, and they are *all* excited.

    Self-control? What's that?

Just an idea for letting us know when a major update's been done: Could this message be stickied and then when the update comes out, could you just edit the title of the message? Just a basic flag, like perhaps "Catalog updated 30 March 4 p.m."?

    Thanks, Derek!

I was just gonna make a new post with each update, so that anyone popping in down the road wouldn't get confused by all the posts relating to a release weeks ago, but if we do just end up editing the same posting, the upload date will be featured prominently.

And with the date and time stamps, people should (Cross Fingers) be able to separate the new from the old.

Or, as another alternative, maybe a post up where Marimacc's has her note about not starting a new "I'm new to Gencon thread." Nice and prominent, it's locked so no one replies, and either you or Mari can update it as you need.
