    Re: Indy Build?

Hi Kat. Sorry about the delay. I've got an email and a voicemail out to the Indy Habitat people, I'm just waiting to hear back from them. They may not be able to tell us for sure at this point...unlike New Orleans Habitat, who needs several moths advance notice in order to have room in the schedule, Indy Habitat probably isn't as busy. But hopefully we'll be able to get it officially scheduled soon. I know we've got a lot of people interested and available.

    You'll know when I know :)

Good to hear, Mathos! I hope to be able to meet you.

I just spoke to Beth at Indy Habitat, and here's the current info:

There isn't a work day currently planned for Tuesday the 12th or Wednesday the 13th of August. There *is* a work day planned for that Friday, but that's during the convention. HOWEVER...

    1) Sponsorship money can get us a work day on a build site. $5000 of sponsorship equals one full work day for about 20 people. $2500 equals a half day of work. I've passed this info on to Gen Con. As I understand, they have not chosen a charity for this year, so it's *possible* that Gen Con might be able to supply some or all of the sponsorship money. Of course, we could always contact exhibitors or other gaming companies to look into sponsorship too. White Wolf, WotC, Chessex, etc.

    2) Habitat always has volunteer opportunities that do not involve working directly on a house. Pre-cutting lumber for a build site and working in their Home Store are two other possibilities.

So at this point, nothing is decided, but decisions are hopefully on the way. I'll keep everyone informed. For now, I would tentatively say this: that anyone who wants to volunteer in some way will have an opportunity on Tuesday the 12th...it may not be hammering and house-building, but we will be able to do something worthwhile and helpful for Habitat-Indy.

I thought they chose Gary Gygax's charity as their official charity.

I heard that the Gen Con Charity Auction was considering Gary's charity, but the Charity Auction is a separate organization, as I understand it.

That actually sounds correct, Tom. Too many threads and too many message boards running together sometimes.

    Re: Indy Build?

    Hi Kat.

I'm definately working on this. At the moment, I'm doing the fund-raising thing, trying to get the funds to be donated to Habitat necessary for us to be able to work on a house that day. The amount we need is $5000. I've been contacting industry companies, pulled from the usual suspects of companies who regularly come to Gen Con. Hopefully I should know in a week or two whether we're going to have any progress in that area. The people I've been talking to seem interested, at least.

If that doesn't come off, we will be able to do *something* with Habitat: either stuff like pre-cutting lumber for a house, or working in their Home Store for the day. But I'm trying to get us a house to work on, because I think, with the number of people we can bring, that we can do the most good that way.

I'll let you all know as soon as I do. Thanks for the enthusiasm, it's definately appreciated. :)

No problem. I booked my plane ticket anyway in hope that I can help. I was just wondering where you were 'at' in the progress on it, so thank you for getting back to me on it!! I need flyers cause I know of some great places I can put them in hopes of funding.
