You better clean that up! It makes the pole slick.

Yes, but will it be 10'?

Just remember it's very strenuous, so as long as you are in good health
Question- what would be some good exercises for aspiring dancers to do in advance of the Con?  To get better prepared.

New Gen Con event: 'The Long Walk'

Yes, but I'd have to leave (looks at calendar) NOW to make it on time.  Plus I'm not sure there'd be much left of me at the end.  :P  I'm starting to do some basic free weight exercises.  Even if I do actually end up dancing with a pole, it can't hurt to raise a point in Str.  Basically I'm thinking this event (pole dancing, not The Long Walk) could use some advance prep from its aspiring participants.

That was actually a good book by Steven King, The Longest Walk.... I read it while sitting in a tree stand one year.

I'd bet any good stretching exercises, started now, would be invauable later on.

LOL actually, I finished it over about 3 weekends. I never did see one go by, so I had plenty of time to read.

Core stability and upper body strength are used for pole dancing. The warm-up at the classes I took included hula-hoop for about 10 minutes, and push-ups.

Re: New Gen Con event: 'The Long Walk'

The instructor said she would teach guys as long as they were willing to be serious about it, and the weight limit on the pole is right around 250.

Read earlier in the thread you just had to be under 250.

Shoes/Clothing at the Pole Dancing Class

In case anyone was wondering about attire for the class, clothes that you would wear to workout in would be the most appropriate (yoga pants or shorts, and a t-shirt). Also, I strongly recommend that you take this class barefoot; or, if that makes you uncomfortable, you can wear socks. I won't stop anyone who wants to wear high heels but I strongly suggest that you feel comfortable in them before the class.

It would be worth stopping in just to see Alpha_Male in high heels. That would be rather contradictory to his handle.

Don't forget, less than 6 hours till you can register for this event.

Re: Shoes/Clothing at the Pole Dancing Class

Come on man, I've worn high heels once...ok twice but it was on Holloween and two different years. ( I was a nurse).  They squeeze my toes together (Ouch), very uncomfortable, don't see how women do it.  Don't think I could dance in them or climb a pole, Hats off to the LADIES.

This event sounds really great!  With a little more working out before-hand, I may be back in a physical state to be able to do this.  I can still do the splits, and just about put my feet behind my head one at a time--that's gotta be helpful, right?!?!

Personally, I think this would go over better for all of us on the female side--if it were ladies only.  I don't mean to be excluding, but for reasons of comfort in expressing our own inner-hotties, we need to just have a little girl time. Wink
