GM email: Event submission has ended, Game Highlights due May 2nd

I've had a few questions about this, so I wanted to send out a quick notice to give everyone the basic info until the web site gets updated.

    Event Submission

Event submission closed on Monday. We will continue accepting events as long as we have space, but we not be able to process and place anything else before event registration opens on April 20th, nor can we guarantee that your event will be listed in the on-site registration book.

If you still have any events you would like to submit, please get the details in as soon as possible and send me an email to confirm the space you need.

    Game Highlights Due May 2nd

If you have an event (or several events) that you would like to be included in our game highlights online as well as in the on-site program book, you can send them to the events department for review.

    • All highlights are due May 2nd, 2008

    • Email your highlights to events@gencon.com  and include your text as an .rtf or .doc attachment.

    • Highlights should be approximately 300 words or fewer. Companies/groups with a large number of events to cover may be granted an exception, on a case-by-case basis.

    • Do not simple list all your events and game IDs. Highlights should be used to highlight and promote special events or programs. You can provide game IDs for sample events but use this as an opportunity to talk about your overall event program instead of just reiterating your event description.

    • Please include a print-quality (300-dpi) logo for your company or gaming group, if you have one.

If you have any questions about submitting game highlights, please let us know.

    Hi Derek,

Is there any way you could post a sample highlight for us relatively new GMs? I'd like to include some for my games but I'm not 100% sure what to include. Also, I'm running one event three times. Am I correct in assuming I should only send one highlight? Thanks!

If you have a program book from last year, you might want to take a look at the highlights in there for ideas of how to write one. :)

I don't really have any samples, sorry Smile You'll want to refer to the rules, that should give you a basic jist.

Other than that, the event highlights are basically a place for gaming groups and companies to talk about how cool their overall event program is as opposed to the per-game event descriptions. It's stuff like "Hey! We're running a bunch of generic-only events, so stop on by!" or "We're launching a new organized play program for our game and here's why it's so cool!"

Try to answer a few quesitons in your highlights:

    • What's cool about our overall event program?
    • Are we an established group that has something new this year that people might not expect?
    • Do any of my events connect together in really cool ways?
    • Are we doing anything special beyond the events themselves?
It's your change to talk about the cool stuff that you're doing at the show that didn't really fit into the event descriptions.
