One has to remember that we tend to view the "original" movies through the eyes we did when we first saw them.  Most of us were children or teens when we saw them and, frankly, children have lower standards.  I tried watching them from an adult point of view, which was quite difficult, but I realized that from that viewpoint, those movies are not all that great.  The droids are annoying.  The ewoks are far more juvenile than Jar Jar, something I never though possible.

Secondly, the first set of movies has a set of plots that are simplistic and naturally geared towards younger audiences.  The second set are really political thrillers that were, unfortunately, made in a style to entertain young males (an inherently flawed concept).

Why must everyone hate on the Ewoks? I like the oversized Tribbles. Granted, the Ewoks cartoon was better, but I still liked them. Of course, I like Jar Jar also, so don't mind me.

I don't hate Ewoks either - well, not until they start whining about being duct-taped and dangled over that pit of alligators. Then they're just plain annoying as all get out.

Xefe, intellectually I can see where you're coming from with the whole "eyes of the child v. the eyes of the adult" approach. The theory's not always applicable though. I mean, I still get sucked into Classic Star Trek and Classic Avengers, just like when I was a kid. And I get just as drawn into Sky High, The Incredibles, Justice League, and Justice League Unlimited and those didn't come out until I was in my 40s.

I guess a huge part of me will always (and thankfully) be a kid.

"The ewoks are far more juvenile than Jar Jar"? Did the Ewoks even have any lines in the movie? I still cannot stomach Episode 1, it should have been called Phantom Acting Skills...

Ok, I liked all the movies, call me a fanboy, but I did.  After watching them all back-to-back, I would have to say that C3PO was much more annoying than Jar Jar.

Honestly. I also liked all the movies. Hayden Christiansen should have been replaced with a better actor,  but overall I enjoyed them. I even liked Jar Jar. I used to havea  Jar Jar watch ( I was in high school when it came out)

*shrug* Don't care, I liked them. You can call me crazy. I never saw the original 3 until my high school years. Then I went to see Phantom Menance and also liked that. SO *shrug* I'm not as old as many of you, but I'm still a fan just the same. Of course my road into gamerhood/geekdom didn't start until really my junior/senior years of highschool.

Hayden Christensen isn't a bad actor........watch Life as a House. Problem is, Lucas can't direct actors to save his life, and only the best actors come out looking ok.

I'm actually watching the VHS Special Edition copy of the original 3 right now. I have 2 down and one to go. Bring on the Ewoks and Tattooine / Endor. I want to see the original where Han shot first, but you could tell pretty easily that it was added in as an afterthought if you knew to look for it. I agree with BHT yet again, C3PO is truly annoying. R2D2 is bearable, but at least he has a personality.

Now I want to watch Spaceballs again. I can't see the Vader Lackeys without thinking of BigHelmet.

What is this "VHS" you speak of?  Very High Sound? Virtual Holographic System?
