    Sunday needs help

I'm more excited about Wednesday, an unofficial day, than I am about Sunday an official day.

    Re: Sunday needs help

I agree, when I went through the listings and was picking games, I could only fit 1 game in on Sunday. We need to expand this to an all-day event as well. Maybe next year gaming groups can take it over as well.

Agreed. But many people travel out that day. I'd way rather have Wednesday than Sunday.

    Re: Sunday needs help

We rarely schedule anything on Sundays now since we've (a) been burned with no-shows in the past and (b) like to have a little time to make the final pass through the main hall before things shut down.

I think it'd be pretty difficult to extend Sunday to a full day given the plans of most retailers. They want/need to get home (and back to business that week) and I doubt the extra revenue on Sunday would make up for the inconvenience.

We leave Indy on Monday, but the light schedule on Sunday is a nice break. We cruise the main hall one last time, eat a nice lunch and spend the rest of the time playing all the new games we've acquired. Smile

Oh, and I stand in line for an hour and pay $200 to UPS to ship my stuff back to Cali. Angry

Who said anything about the dealer's hall? I didn't even plan in any time to run through it, but I'm sure I'll squeeze some time in there.

If you look just to the left of someone's post it displays lots of information, including their user name.

LOL You missed my point, I was just saying that we need more events for Sunday. The dealer's hall can close so they can get back for their regular business hours, just offer games all day.

No, you missed mine: your comment was rude. Smile Remember, I'm not your buddy and this isn't a face-to-face conversation, so things may not come across with the tone you intended. Or maybe they did.

In any event, you can play whatever games you want on Sunday, but there's more to running the convention than "offering games all day." The areas that host events cost money, they also require hall captains and other volunteers to staff those areas, blah blah. The hotels, for example, seem pretty eager to get the game tables (and gamers) cleared out pretty quickly midday, since business travelers (and NFL teams) start rolling in. The convention center itself (and that means more than the dealer hall) is on its own schedule, and that's planned years in advance.

And regardless, most people are still going to leave Sunday in any event. Smile

My group (FITS society) runs events at 8am and noon on Sunday and is a pretty busy day for us, but I can see the 500BG hall pretty empty on Sunday

    Ok, no personal attacks please!

I for one have SPA events running to 3pm.  All event must end by 4pm, GMHQ closes PROMPTLY at 5pm, and everyone pretty much has to be gone by then.  That's just how it is with the convention center.

Does everyone have to clear out, or can there still be open gaming in the con? If nothing else, maybe we can find some pick up games afterwards, as long as I don't have to head out of town again like last year.

It's my understanding that the ICC will close. I assume the hotels will have as much open space as you'd normally expect on a Sunday. (For whatever my assumptions are worth). Wink

    Re: Sunday needs help

I can't wait to run my events on Sunday; they're almost always packed.

Still, if you look at these forums, people have pushed coming early on Wednesday rather than staying Sunday night. If you want Sunday to be better, stay until Monday and tell your friends to do so as well.

I am part of a group that arrives around 3 PM Wednesday afternoon and leaves at around 3 PM Sunday afternoon, playing in neither Wednesday nor late Sunday gaming. (I go to the Stink but my buddies do not.) I don't see this changing any year soon.

At least in previous years, we gamed in the basement of the Hilton and at the Embassy. It was more "time with friends," but there ended up being a respectable number of people there by the late evening.

Last year was my first year, and I was so tired by Sunday that we went straight home. I think after doing Thursday, Friday and Saturday most people are so tired come Sunday they just head out.

The last few years, I've been in town for almost the entire week.  I do stay until the Hall closes but then I'm on the road back home.  I need to unwind before work on Monday, even though this year, I'll just go in late.

I don't really have a problem gaming on Sunday.  I just haven't seen any that I wanted to play in or else they were already full.  Last year I really wanted to get into the 8a Sunday A Game of Thrones RPG but it sold out within the first few minutes of registration.  And I wonder if anyone actually showed heh.

My best thing on Sunday is to relax and wander the dealer's hall because I frequently don't get a chance to do so the rest of the weekend.

Last year was my first GenCon. I registered for two Sunday events and skipped them both. After 4 days of little sleep, lots of caffiene and fast food, and more die rolls than I can remember, I was totally burnt out. Instead of gaming, I slept in, had a nice breakfast, and hit the road early so I could get home before Sunday evening traffic built up.

This year, I'm not registering for anything on Sunday. I expect to feel the same.

Last year was also my first at Gencon, and I made the mistake trying to make it to a game on Sunday morning.  With late night carousing the previous night, I never made it.  I learned my lesson and have planned nothing on Sunday.

    Re: Sunday needs help

I fly home on monday, so sunday is still a full day for me. The convention closes down, but will still be there. Last time, my friends and I ended up seeing a movie. If there were convention stuff, I'd do it, even if it were just a dead dog open gaming room. Just give us late travelers a room, and make sure the info gets out about where it is. After all, we have our purchases to play with :)  If nothing else, we could take over the mcdonalds and subway at the hyatt. They have been pretty friendly in the past, and unlike the mall, they stay open sunday evening. We could also coordinate some meetups here on the forum, but I know that I tend not to look at the computer until stuff starts to drag on sunday, and at that point it's too late. I guess I just don't want it to end, not till the plane takes off, and even then, I will be reading a gaming book :)

I don't like flying in the afternoon. As the day wears on, the delays pile up, and there's less space to recover from a problem. I want to wake up, check out, and go home. But I don't want to miss sunday at the convention. If I fly home sunday, gencon turns into the best three days in gaming. Oh, also, if I fly in the afternoon, I'm stuck lugging all my high quality stuff around from checkout time till I hit the airport. That's not fun.

edit: I arrive on wed too. But wed seems to work out ok. The hyatt lobby always seems to have some tables and some people playing games on wed.
