Well, if by "old way" you mean the Mods asking, "okay--who's coming.....post here"--then yes. In fact, the only signing up that was actually required was to assure that you were one of those lucky first 150 I believe it was to get your forum name on your Stink button, and a special SWAG bag. The major list was actually for those attending the after-part at the RAM due to spacial/staffing constraints on the restaurant.
We haven't been able to make it to the con in two years now--and I had not realized the sign-up process had changed so drastically. I wish that we had known much sooner that we were going to need to go through Event Registration just to attend the Stink, as now it is too late and tickets are all gone. The sad part, of course, how many will end up not even being used? I would like to know about a waiting list, in the rather likely event that this WILL occur. ( I specifically remember several SWAG bags w/buttons that weren't even picked up by folks that planned to attend two years ago, for example.)
Well anyway--as I posted other places--keep us in mind if you find you have to back out. At the very minimum--I would like to have a ticket to go, and thewildeman can just wait back at the hotel with our son and +1, lol. Otherwise, we would need 4 total. TYVM
