My friends and I just registered & are looking to play 4E D&D.  Virtually everything 4E event is booked so if anyone else is running a game let me know.

Re: Gen Con Unofficial Events, 2008

Well - my Friday night Game of Thrones RPG has been accepted for consideration - now it just needs to be placed.

I will continue to try to figure out a location for the Wednesday night version we are trying to plan...will keep those few that are interested posted here.

I noticed that there were not a huge number of 4E games offered. I think this is due to a combination of events... WotC snafu which is iterated on many other threads and need not be re-iterated here (them not coming officially .... yet), and the rules not out yet, so many independant DM's not wanting to back themselves into a corner by not being able to convert their games to 4E in time (and do it properly). There were a bunch of tournament style games in there, but I think many of us do not consider tournament games the same as standard play games. I personally avoid tournament games.

It would be nice if we could have some pick-up games on Wednesday night, especially since they seemed so popular last year.

I know I am not Senor Sock, but I do know the answer you seek.

All of the Wednesday activities will be hotels (based on last chat with Derek). Nothing in the ICC will be available for gaming until Thursday morning. The only ~possible~ area ~might~ be the first floor serpentine, but don't hold me to that, and then only while registration is open.

My game has not been placed yet - I am assuming that the WOTC events that were delayed most likely ate up any chance I had.

    We shall see.

    Huzzah!

My 'Game of Thrones' event has been officially placed...RPG01922

I have a blog set-up with some campaign and game information - if you are signed up or otherwise interested, please let me know (or click on the blog link in my profile).

I can still possibly run the game for Wednesday night as well...just need a place to run it.

Re: Gen Con Unofficial Events, 2008

With space limited due to construction, are they still going to have an Open Gaming area like last year? I can't imagine not having it somewhere, but it will probably be either more confined, moved a bit out of the 'prime' areas, or maybe rotating based on other needs of the space. I realize we still have 2 months to go. I have a packed itinerary, but still would like to wet my feet at running a game, preferrably in a small group.

I can not speak anything but Boardgames, but there is a small number of tables set aside in Rm 116 for Open BG play.

     Better late than never....

    THE APARTMENT

A Call of Cthulhu adventure    by   Brad Lund aka "Eternus IV",  Deadpan Jester Games

The newly renovated Langer Apartment Complex in Chicago has been the ideal place to rent, despite the warning from the transient with the three-legged dog who lives outside. "You couldn't pay me enough money to come off my sidewalk to sleep in there," he said before you went inside to sign the lease. A week later, the landlord has invited you to attend a party with the other new tenants. The sun is shining, the food smells great, life is good....

GAME TIMES:   Gen Con Indy 2008

    ID: RPG01957
Location: Union Station - Edison North - 5          <-------- THOSE WITH TIX
    Time slot: Fri Aug 15
    7:00 pm - 11:00 pm
    FULL

    ID: RPG01956
Location: Hyatt - Network - 4                               <-------------- WED DAY GAMING, YOU KNOW YOU WANNA
Time slot: Wed Aug 13 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
    SLOTS LEFT:  5

    SETTING:

Most of you have just moved into the Langer Apartment Complex, located at 5735 N Winthrop Drive, Chicago, IL, which lies in the Edgewater district of Uptown Chicago.   Lake Michigan lies a few city blocks to your East and the Rosehill Cemetery a few city blocks to the Northwest.  The layout and floor plan of your assigned apartment is nearly identical to those of the former Winthrop Terrace apartments, which can be found on the internet.

    YOUR NEW LANGER TEAM!

Richard Meyers - Landlord - Richard has been most helpful in getting you settled into the LAC, and his assistant Cleevis Barnaby did not hesitate to help you move.   Both Cleevis and Richard reside in basement units, down a hallway from the laundry room.   Richard always holds morning appointments and has mentioned more than once that he is looking for a suitable buyer for the LAC, but assures you that the lease will remain honored by a future buyer, if any.   A copy of the lease is provided and Richard has repeatedly advised that you read the Rules and Regulations.

Cleevis Barnaby - Manager - Cleevis isn't very talkative, but laughs a little each time he jumps off the bottom stair onto the landing.   He is often seen taking care of the grounds, or cleaning the common areas.  In the few times you've seen Cleevis, you've noticed that he always wears suspenders.   You can't tell if Cleevis is 19 years old, or approaching his late 50's.   He has pronounced scarring on both sides of his face and his glass eye is misaligned enough to cause a major distraction when speaking to him.

    THE TENANTS

What follows is a very general description of each character available for the game.  You will receive a more detailed description of your character including your key motives and important background information once we sit down to play.   As with most COC adventures (at least the ones I run and play), you cannot rule out that another player may have designs against your own....

(A note about gender - all but Frank have opposite gender character sheets.   Please let me know in advance if possible.)

    Coran Clarke - Age 50 - Author

Coran is the best-selling, self-published author of several books dealing with the history of the occult and parapsychology.   Coran uses a penname which he shares only with close friends and colleagues and occasionally teaches at Loyola University.

Major Skills:  Anthropology (73)  Psychology (78)  History (78)  Occult (70)

Emmit Price- Age 37 - Hobo

Emmit is known throughout Edgewater for his witty cardboard signs, his good nature and knowledge of the streets.  The LAC is a little out of his territory and his friends haven't seen him for weeks.   In fact, he hasn't been feeling very human lately....  NOTE: This is an ideal character for a fun role playing challenge.

Major Skills:  Listen (67)  Spot Hidden (65)  Bargain (65)   Hide (65)  Track (65)

Frank Villetti- Age 68 - Former Prizefighter

Everybody loves Frank, but if you ask him about it, he has no reason why.  Frankie is in outstanding shape for his age and still coaches boxing and other styles of fighting at the Chicago Boxing Club.

    Major Skills:  Fist/Punch (95)  Dodge (85)  Fast Talk (80)   Bargain (75)

    Weapon:  .45 Revolver

Nikolai Korolev- Age 32 - Missionary

Nikolai often has his nose in a book, or is closing his eyes in contemplation.  His English is improving but many find it difficult to listen to his beliefs; that many find bizarre.   In fact, most people think he is citing a science fiction movie when he speaks.   His paintings are otherworldly, but sell well enough for him to survive.

Major Skills:  Painting (65)  Occult (65)   Persuade (65)   Slovak (60)   Mech Repair (44)

    Weapon:  .38 Automatic

Page Davies- Age 29 - Law Student

Page is always on her laptop, or her PDA, and usually carrying around a heavy back pack stuffed with books and notepads.  She is quick to tell you about her political blog and that she likes it quiet after 10:00pm so she can study.   When she's not in her apartment, she is usually at the Loyola University Law School, or an internet cafe in between.

Major Skills:  Computer Use (79)  Persuade (67)   Law (45)   Psychology (65)   Psychoanalysis (56)

Saji Samma- Age 39 - Doctor

Saji has just transferred to Northwestern Memorial Hospital as a general surgeon.  Saji spent most of his time in the University of Wisconsin working towards a specialty in pharmaceuticals.  Saji didn't have many things to move, and he rarely plans to be at the apartment once he is scheduled for call next week.

Major Skills: First Aid (92) Medicine (91) Pharmacy(87) Biology (86) Spot Hidden (80)

Tom Anastasio- Age 21 - Looking For Work

Tom has a pretty rough edge to him for a 21 year old.  If you think its any of your business, Tom is looking for work and he has an interview next week.

    Major Skills: Locksmith (76)   Fist/Punch (75)  Spot Hidden (65)  Conceal (55)  Handgun (55)

    Weapon:   .32 Automatic

    THE BARBEQUE:

The characters start the adventure at the LAC New Tenant BBQ at 11:00am on Saturday, hosted by your landlord, Mr. Meyers.   All of you will receive materials specific to your character.  You will all receive a copy of the lease, and you actually should review the Rules and Regulations prior to the barbeque (the remainder of the lease is sheer boilerplate.)

The lease will be posted on my website, along with this informational, the BBQ invitation, a dated article from the Chicago Tribune and a few photos.   Bring an appetite!

Some of my friends and I are still interested in a 4E D&D game, so if anyone is running any, drop me a line. We tried to get in some, but they were pretty limited. There's a group of 4 of us, all pretty experienced gamers. Anyway, if anyone's running anything 4E let me know.

We've got a group of 3 to play a 4E game, too, but are in need of a GM. (2 experienced at tabletop through 3.5 but new to 4E & my son (almost 14, but no real dice XP, just lots of WOW levels and the occasional monster playing.) Perhaps if you find a game, AND there is room for 3 more, AND our schedules are coordinate, we could join you?

Re: Gen Con Unofficial Events, 2008

    Hello everyone,

I know it's short notice, but for those who are interested, I submit the following games for your consideration while at GENCON :)

    Game/Version –

Dungeon Dwellers (circa 1980), Heritage USA

    Title –

Crypt of the Sorcerer, and Caverns of Doom

    Date/Time –

     Thursday 8/14 3:30 – 4:30pm

     Friday 8/15 3:30 – 4:30pm

     Saturday 8/16 10 – 11am

These times are subject to change, and will depend on availability in the open gaming area, and availability of my schedule to those who might be interested in playing.

    Slots -

     10 max for both games

    Notes -

I am sure many of us older gamers will remember this game. I have taken this game from paper maps to fully playable Dioramas. I have always enjoyed playing the games, and want to share my passion with others. The games are very easy to play, and kids as young as 10 can pick up the rules very easily (my son started playing with me when he was 8 years old). I do ask those interested in playing that have children that the children have some level of maturity, due to the nature of dioramas made from foam. Also, the figures are made from lead, so I don’t want any of the younger ones chewing on them :)

A little bit of information on the Dioramas and Miniatures:

The Dioramas were professionally produced by Jeff Clapham (Theomar Pius on coolminiornot.com, and the customhobby.com websites).

The miniatures were painted by Darron LaFleur (owner of the Middle Earth hobby shop in NJ), and Vince Landt (2007 Reapercon gold winner in the CAV category, and honorable mention in DHL large competition).

Pictures of the dioramas can be found on my website (www.dungeon-dwellers.info) in the Forums area.

If anyone is interested in playing or just viewing the Dioramas, please email me (david at dungeon-dwellers.info) or leave a message on this or my Forum.

Thanks for your consideration and I hope to see you there,

    David Campbell

amusingjenn, that would be totally fine with me! Our group is pretty laid back so we are certainly open to gaming with some other folks. Just gotta track that DM down now. DM's, if there's anyone out there looking to run a 4E game, please let me know!!
