As part of their promotion for this summer's "The Dark Knight," Domino's is featuring the Gotham City Pizza, complete with a specially designed box. There are four or six boxes in this set, each one featuring a different part of the costume -- the belt, the insignia, the cowl, what have you. I was thinking about getting together a set of these boxes (unused, of course) for the auction but was wondering just how viable this might be. And if it is, would it be better if the boxes were folded or in their original, unfolded form?

 I doubt there would be much interest in such an item - for a couple of reasons: (1) They are relatively new easy to get hold of, and (2) TOVA* is a popular section, but the "Oddities" are so hit and miss that you can't be sure that there would be two spirited bidders in the audience.

* For those who don't know, we have a couple house of the auction devoted to TOVA which stands for "Toys, Oddities, Video, and Art".  We get some *very* interesting stuff !!!

Okie-doke. Considering they might not be marketable for some years to come and they'd be a pain for storing, it sounds like "pass" would be a good option on picking them up.

They will nest in my hoard until an appropriate time for their resurrection. Maybe in a decade or two...  ;>

I had the whole set. I think my wife tossed them in the move....that sucks. However I also have an unpeeld window cling from Burger King of Chewbacca. I think I am going to trry to sell that at the auction.

Japanese editions of D&D, T&T, and other games are very common in Japan.

So Thurs or Sat eve probably, just as an oddity. It's not rare, merely unusual when found in the US.

Found a few more things rummaging through the house:

Pringles promotional posters of Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back. Some are in excellent condition, some not so much (rolled up and stored on edge can take a toll). Only two sets were matched up (Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, C-3PO & RD-D2, and Hans & Leia). Those I'm planning on entering into the auction. Also have two more copies of the droid poster, five more of Luke, and (yikes) 29 of Hans & Leia. I'm tempted to put these into the Auction Store but I think the cost for individual poster tubes will make this prohibitive.

Also found a novelization of E.T., the Extra-Terrestrial (William Kotzwinkle, sixth printing, June 1982), a novel based on Man from Atlantis (Richard Woodley, second printing, November 1977), a ratty copy of Grimtooth's Traps (fourth printing, December 1982), the Star Trek: Generations screenplay (fFinal Draft: October 14, 1994, with a note inside that says it isn't for publication or reproduction (I think I bought it at a UND booksale though)), and for fun and light reading, Le Morte D'Arthur (Sir Thomas Malory. I don't see a print date on it but I picked it up somewhere between June '94 and Dec '96).

Would there be any interest in Trivial Pursuit: Star Wars Episode 1 (collector's edition)? I can barely seem to find it on the internet, so no idea how common it is. The box has been opened, but in excellent, I think unplayed, condition and the figures have never been unwrapped inside.

 There any interest in collections of that olde formate "VHS"?..such as a hundred or so anime titles?

That would be ideal stuff to put into the Auction Store.  that way a whole bunch of potential buyers can see the videos and read the plot synopsis.

I believe those particular books (depending on condition) would better be suited for the store. Except perhaps the Oriental Adventures (again depending on condition).

The last year has been interesting in this regard. All the 1e items, including the orange spine reprints, are becoming more collectible every week. (As usual, condition is paramount; there are thousands of common heavily used ones for each Mint-condition collectible.) Furthermore, although the focus is still on 1e materials (AD&D 1st edition, 1979-85), the "1.5" category (Oriental Adventures, Unearthed Arcana, and the two Survival Guides) is appreciating quickly, and various 2e materials are now becoming collectible as well. (It's quite understandable, as it's been 20 years since their appearance, but still startling to us old-fogie collectors.)

Bottom line: Watch for jumps in value of clean late-1e, 1.5e, & 2e items over the next few years.

Aha, MY old stuff, eh?

eBay prices for those boxed rule sets I wrote back in the dark ages (1983-86) are blah ($10-15 tops) if they're the books only, a little better with a used box, and a LOT better if the box is really clean. You're referring to the Companion and Master sets (the two after Expert) of course. (Set #5 Immortals, if in a pristine box, can do even better -- often at $50+ on eBay.)

The best reference work combining my boxed sets is of course the RC (Rules Compendium), about 95% mine with 5% added, and is real easy to use. Its value still holds quite well, often more than original retail, and many Olde Schoole gamers are always looking for it.

(As usual I'd be happy to sign any of the above if requested, happens a lot at the con. No charge of course; I'm not a pro athlete, just an author. ;> )
