    is one item worth it?

I've bought stuff at the auction, but I've never sold anything.  How long does it usually take on site for the paperwork, both before and after?

I've got 1 or 2 items that I'm thinking of putting up, but I don't know if it ends up being pretty complicated or time consuming.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

For the love of all things holy on God's Green Earth, pre-register your items online!

It won't take you long to enter a couple of items, the problem is the guy in front of you may be entering 60 items in.  Last year, they had three or four computers for you to put your items in.  I was in line a good 45 minutes, then the time it took me to enter each item, then go to the desk and have them tagged.  I did this on Saturday morning, so your experience may vary depending on when you try.

Go here and preregister your items:

Then you print the tag on your printer and attach to the item.  Come in on Wed or Thursday (or even Fri/Sat) and drop it off.  We scan it and into the auction it goes!  Come back and collect your money on Sunday!

As far as the 'waiting in line' part -- folks with large hoards are usually handled separately. When someone arrives with carts full, we try to task one volunteer to that seller, working through the pile piece by piece. So most folks in line only have a couple, and it zips right along.

Try for Wednesday check-in; the lines are smaller and you don't have a game session to race to.

On Thurs/Fri/Sat, try to check in after 10 am. Lots of folks try to make it to a 10a game or to the dealer room, and the waiting lines thin noticeably by 10:15.

Well, this year's GenCon auction proved that you REALLY, REALLY, REALLY want to pre-register your item(s).  We had two stations setup for accepting items into the auction and there really wasn't much of a wait - at its worst on Wed their might have been 1/2 hour or so, but the typical wait was under a couple of minutes.

This was definitely not the case for items being registered on site. We had a "line out the door" of people waiting to use the 4 computers setup for on-location registration of the items....They had to wait for that, print out the tags, cut and tape the tags to the items and then bring them to one of those 2 stations for check-in to the auction.

We handed out playing cards (red for on-site, black for pre-registered), so that the value of your card was your place in line.  Some people spent Wednesday AND Thursday typing in their items (and using up one of the computers).  We eventually wised up and had one of the computer stations for people with fewer than 50 items.  Next year we may even have two set aside for the low-volume sellers.

Still - it will really pay to pre-register - not only are your tags cheaper, you're not spending valuable convention time typing in items.
