    This year's VIG program

Will there be one?  Will the details be posted, completely hammered out with benefits etc., before badges go on sale?  Will there be a 'discount' for returning VIG members?  Will there be a contest to 'upgrade' to a VIG?

    Re: This year's VIG program

    Hi Gina,

Yes there is a VIG program for 2009.

The benefits as currently confirmed are posted:  http://www.gencon.com/2009/indy/attendees/vig.aspx
Of particular note, the "friends & family" coupons have been replaced by giving the VIG the option to purchase up to 3 Companion Badges for $100 each that includes the 4-day admission as well as full VIG lounge access and early exhibit hall access.

Yes,  it costs $475 for returning VIGs through Dec. 31. (At which point it goes back to $500).

Contest? I've heard nothing about an upgrade contest.

Last  year, Gen Con gave away a free VIG as a promo.  Just curious if they'll do it again.

Ah okay, gotcha now.  I haven't heard anything about a promo. I'll be sure to post it if something like this does come along.

    Re: This year's VIG program

I've been an attendee at GenCon since 2006.  I've always stayed away from the VIG tickets due to the cost.  I attend with a large group of friends from across the country and we usually pack a room at the downtown Hilton.  Our group has grown to such a size that we need our room(s) to grow.

Can anyone tell me how the room selection for the VIG program works?  I know that the VIGs get first crack at the rooms, but is there only a limited block they can choose from or can they select from pretty much any room that would normally be available to any GC attendee?

We have taken a nice suite at the Hilton for the past couple of years and have been very happy there, despite the distance from it to the Con.  I've been privileged enough to see some of the penthouse suites at the Embassy, but I've been told that these are generally unavailable.

Any help would be appreciated.  Every year we've gone has been better than the last and we're trying to keep that tradition going as we grow.

    Thanks in advance.  Smile

    Re: This year's VIG program

The VIG's provide their top three hotel choices and are guaranteed to get into one of the three. (Usually their first choice but not always possible). You should be able to request any room normally available in the Housing Block, I'll try to confirm with Rachel when the GC office is open again.

Can't help you with the Embassy penthouse as I've never tried for those; don't know if they're even an option in the Housing block.

You get ONE of your top three choices of rooms that are normally available to Gen Con attendees. My understanding for the penthouse for the Embassy Suites is that it is NOT in the block, but if it were available you could book it outside the block at whatever rate they normally charge for that room. So basically, having a VIG would not get you better access or a better rate on the Embassy Suites penthouse.

Right. Wasn't that part of filling out the post-con survey, or was that something separate?

Yes, it was last year, but I haven't heard anything about that this year, sorry.

I actually received an e-mail shortly after GenCon this past summer asking me to fill out the survey for a chance to win a VIG pass and from the look of this thread, I wasn't the only one.

    Re: This year's VIG program

I also have a question about the VIG program.  The decription says it includes one hotel reservation.  What days does this reservation cover?  I usually get into town on Wednesday afternoon.  Does this reservation include Wednesday?  If not, can Wednesday be added for a reasonable fee?

You can get Wednesday night as well; however, I just want to make it clear, because we've had some confusion; the VIG program helps you get a reservation in one of your top 3 hotel choices, but your VIG fee does NOT cover hotel costs in any way, you must still pay the Housing Block rate for your hotel room.

    Re: This year's VIG program

According to the email blast, there are over 100 VIG's available. So either this means the overall number has been increased, or else fewer than 50 of the current VIG''s renewed?

    Any idea which it is?

    Re: This year's VIG program

As I noted in the email blast thread elsewhere, the number of VIGs has been increased a bit.

What is the VIG upgrade? it says to search the site but I can't find any information on it. Only the VIG badge, and companion pass..

Looks to me based on the price that it's to upgrade someone who has already bought a badge to a companion.

    Re: This year's VIG program

As a first time VIG I am a little confused as to how should i go about doing hotel registration. I got a confirmation e-mail saying that I will be contacted by the VIG coordinator(see below) to give my hotel information. So just to be sure, as a VIG I shouldn't use the hotel registration at genconreg.com?. And if I'm supposed to wait does any one have an idea on when I should expect to be contacted by the VIG coordinator.

    Extract from e-mail:

The VIG Coordinator will contact you soon for your hotel preferences. You do not need to use the Passkey system to reserve your hotel room. We have a special housing block set aside for you. More information about the VIG Program can be found on our website at http://www.gencon.com/2009/indy/attendees/vig.aspx.

    Sorry if this seems obvious.

    Thanks in advance

    Cornelius
