    Wireless internet in convention center?

    Greetings,

Does anyone know if wireless internet(WiFi) is available for a fee in the Indy Convention Center? I know that the VIG lounge has it for free, but can mere mortals purchase it for the usual outrageous rates ($20/day or the like)?

    Thanks!

Now that you've made it known that you're willing to pay $20/day, they'll hike it up to $40/day.

It CAN be purchased, but it IS some outrageous price.  You might try the convention center website and see if it's listed there. www.icclos.com

I think a couple years ago, they offered free wifi using a gift code if I remember correctly. Other than that, your best bet is catching it in hotel lobbys if they have it available. I think I gave up on the free wifi in the center because the areas it worked were so limited. You can pay for it, but it's super expensive and super slow, unless they changed it in the meantime.

There is no free wifi in the convention center.  A few years ago, Gen Con did partner with a local company that provides wireless access in other areas of downtown, but that signal was not available in the convention center.

That is correct, it was available in the garden arts center (that strange stage thing that hangs over the street and is by embassy suites).  I took advantage of that once.

Yes, it is available in the Circle Center Mall. It is through Simon Properties group and is easy to sign on to. I have a crappy battery so I have to plug in, but there are plugs scattered throughout. There are also a lot of restaurants downtown offering wifi as well. I have yet to pay for a connection when I am downtown. Sometime the signals are stronger in different places though. And for a really cool field trip, the Library is amazing and several blocks north of the Convention Center. Also, lots of hotels have free internet or will be nice enough to give you a code if you ask.

Convention WiFi = Dialup speeds, ranging from $10-$25 DONT USE!

Hampton Inn by Hard Rock Cafe = Free

Starbucks in Conceco Fieldhouse = $6-$10 (AT&T DSL users can get it free)

Circle Center Mall = $6-$10, Simon WiFi

Starbucks at the Circle = $6-$10 (AT&T DSL users can get it free)

The Chocolate Factory at the Circle = price unknown

All WWAN (EVDO, 3G, and 4G) are 100% signal downtown, only thing you have to worry about is how many people are also using that same service.

Most hotels are free, some require a code on your ticket thing

Hope this helps! I work downtown Indy alot :3

Re: Wireless internet in convention center?

Last couple of years I was using the WiFi in the ArtsGarden and the price was right........free.  My laptop too has battery issues, and there are few plug outlets, but they are there..........I see above that Circle Center Mall / Simon is charging $6 - $10.............is that something new?

All Simon propertys have WiFi, and yes I forgot to include that, its a long walk from the convention center but the arts garden by the zoo has free WiFi, and they have a lounge you can sit down in and a lil cafe. There is plugs there aswell and u can get in the building for free.

It has been my experience that most of the hotels near the convention center charge a daily fee for in-room Internet and make you pay through the nose for parking. The hotels farther out are usually cheaper and don't normally charge for Internet or parking.
