Night Watch, The Northern Capital
The Night Watch, The Day Watch. Together they maintain The Treaty, protecting all Others--users of magic both Light and Dark, creatures fair and foul--from each other and from discovery by humans. Always a perilous task, the balance of magical power in post-Soviet St. Petersburg has suddenly been shaken. Can The Treaty be maintained? Will Others war against Others? Who is manipulating who? A BYOV Mystery, based on the novels by Sergei Lukyanenko.

Night Watch
- Praskoviya Komerovskaia: -Female
Director of the St. Petersburg Night Watch, a dangerous adversary and a brilliant intellect. An accomplished artist, even among the human population.
- Lyubov: -Female (taken)
A trusted lieutenant and protoge of Praskoviya, she rarely breaks from rank with her superiors.
- Vikenti: -Male
A recent young recruit, shows some potential.
- Maks Golovkin: -Male (taken)
Old and broken down, drunk and debauched. Formerly a top administrator in the old Soviet Order, now disgraced and irrelevant. His status with the Watch and his removal from active duty keeps his old enemies from exacting vengeance.
Light Others:
- The Queen of Spades: -Female (taken)
Older than most can remember. Thanks to Pushkin and Tchaikovsky, humans believe the old witch is just a fairy tale. Clever enough to have made her share of enemies, even more clever to have survived this long.
- Lizaveta Ivanovna: -Female
A Devona in service to the Queen of Spades.
- Pasha Petrov: -Male
A recently discovered and initiated Light Other. A lot to learn, but 'street wise' in the human world.
- Nestor Davidovich: -Male
A quiet and scholarly type, visiting his ancesteral homeland from his home of Israel.
- Valeriy: -Male
Middle aged, middle of the road, he keeps to himself a lot. The stress of the Watches is usually more than he cares to endure.
Day Watch:
- Sevastian: -Male (taken)
Director of the Day Watch. Calm and relaxed, he takes a hands off approach with the day-to-day activities of his Watch, leaving that to subordinates--which makes him somewhat of a concern for his superiors in the Moscow Day Watch. Not to be trifled with, of course.
- Afanasiy Markevich: -Male (taken)
One of Sevastian's lieutenants, although perhaps the least of them. Much of the grunt work, and little of the decision-making, falls to him.
- Yefrem: -Male
Werewolf. A young soldier, full of spirit and eager to prove himself.
- Yana: -Female
Newly initiated Dark Other, predicted by both Directors to rise high in her new 'family'--a potential 2nd or even 1st class sorceress.
- Manya: -Female (taken)
Modest potential, perhaps 4rd or 3rd rank eventually. Not a soldier, though. She works for the Analysis Department. Somewhat socially awkward.
- Artyom Zinoviev: -Male
A Devona in service to Sevastian.
Dark Others:
- Roksanya: -Female
An Other of some potential, she has caused her share of trouble for the Night Watch, who can't figure out why she has never joined the Day Watch. Seems to delight in making humans miserable for sport.
- Klavdiya Somova: -Female
Vampire. Was a schoolteacher before a rogue vampire initiated her several years ago. She has received several feeding licenses from the Night Watch, but hasn't used one.
- Lazar: -Male (taken)
A Muscovite. Rumor has it he was 'asked' to leave Moscow by the Night Watch there, but he's not talking...except to himself...every so often.
- The Latvian: -Male (taken)
Recently arrived from Riga, registered with the Night Watch without a name, and without a Watch affiliation. Night Watch inquiries to the Riga Day Watch have gone unanswered.
Inquisition:
- Matryona: -Female
Past middle age in appearance, tall and iron grey. Stern yet just, many consider it a mark of nobility and commitment to the Inquisition that people sometimes forget whether she herself is Light or Dark (she is Dark).
Uninitiated Others and Humans:
- Taras Topczewski: -Male (taken)
A very minor player in the world of the post-Soviet mafia, was only recently identified as an Other. Has a confidence in his money and human influence that is perhaps unwarranted here.
- Neva: -Female (taken)
A mysterious woman who has been spotted around St. Petersburg lately. Some believe that she is an Other of some kind, but no one can quite determine what. Some claim she is something far different. None claim to know her mind.
- Andrei Fursenko: -Male
Human. Russian Minister of Education and Science. A PhD in physics. The Education and Science Ministry is the official (but top secret) liaison between the Watches and the Russian Government.
- Yemelyan: -Male
Human. Fursenko's driver.
