    I like!

There was a 'Gamers for Physical Fitness' group years and years and years ago, mid Milwaukee years if I'm not mistaken. This is a great idea. Several people I know from the Con have lost a good deal of weight recently, this is great timing for gaming culture.

So glad to have faces from the GenCon forum hanging with us at +5 CHA! We're up to 157 members now and things are really buzzing! A bunch of us (including me) are doing the Couch to 5k running program and really feeling the burn! I've lost 5 pounds since GenCon (which is a real feat for me since with PCOS, losing can be excruciatingly slow). It's great having a group of like-minded folks that are on the same path to exchange stories and tips with. :-)

I'm in!  It's a pretty cool concept really.  I like that it's a bunch of geeks, so it's not like you are going to the local L.A. Fitness where everyone can judge you.  Plus, nerd references!

I saw your post last year about setting a weight loss goal for gencon and decided to challenge myself to do it. I didn't quite reach my goal but I did end up attending Gen Con 30lbs lighter than I had been the previous year. I'm hoping for at least that much again for Gen Con 2011.

The best is when you have two players in the party, each trying to "out-mysterious" or "out-loner" the other.

I should probably go join as well, I just keep procrastinating.  I'm down 52 pounds since Gencon 2009 and have another 35 to go to my first goal.

    Hello all,

Totally cool idea!  I think you'll really like the zero to 5K program.  And perhaps, after your first 5K you'll be hooked!  I ran my first 5K two years ago, and that's what happened to me.  I ran my 2nd marathon two months ago.  It gets addicting.  You guys should totally participate in the Orc Stomp next year.  I did the Friday run this past con, and it was nice.  About 20 or so people showed up and it was a great way to see a bit of the city beyond the convention hall.

Also, a bit about running...I've always struggled with my weight, and I still do, dispite the running.  HOWEVER, what I DO like is that rather than thinking I'm trying to "diet" I'm simply "training" for my next event.  It's funny that it is easier to stick to a healthier lifestyle when you don't frame it as a diet in your brain.

I'm still thinking about joining the group, I just don't want to join if I'm not going to participate.  Either way, I wish every member the best in their health goals!!!Smile

This is a great idea. I think I'll join up too. I've got quite a bit to lose myself.

Anyone in here run the Orc Stomp 5k?

If you didn't, it's a great goal for next year!  It was lots of fun, with friendly, sexy gamers everywhere you looked!

    Hey there,

I ran Friday.  The Thursday 8 start was 1) too late...it gets hot, and 2) I was scheduled to run a game starting at 8 anyway.  I had a blast.

About the sexy gamers...well, you must have been running 6-7 minute splits to my 10  'cause if I was in your field of view, you couldn't make that statement! HA!

Go figure... I ran the Thursday one.  Won it, too.  7:33/mi.

You made the right choice.  It was hot as blazes out there.  I thought about doing the Friday one too, but stayed up too late the night before.  How many people made it to that one?  We had about 25.

Good event, though, huh?  I hope he manages to make it bigger like he plans to.

    Hey there Jester,

CONGRATS! on the win.  With 7:33 splits, I would imagine you would!  Way to go!

I think we have about 15-20 Friday morning.  Perhpas it was too early for some.  However, with the humidity, personally I would prefer to have an early start.  I don't know if there would be interest, but I'd love to see a 10K event.  Not sure that would attract enough runners.  I know you could just do the 5K twice, but I've been to events that do that, and I don't care for just runnin' the same course twice.  There's a runner in my running group who did a 100 on the east coast that consisted of a 12.5 mile course...repeated 8 times.  I would go crazy doing that, HA!

Anyway, hope to see you at the Orc Stomp next year!
