    Welcome to Nascrag - 2011

    Hi!  Welcome to NASCRAG.

If you’re looking for some good D+D at Gen Con this year, you’ve come to the right place.  Nascrag is the Biggest D+D 3.5 Tournament at GenCon in 2011.

    Who We Are:

NASCRAG is a national organization of gamers, headquartered in the Chicago area, that has been hosting D+D tournaments at Gen Con (and other conventions) since 1980 - 32 years!  At Gen Con, the only D+D event that has been around longer is the D+D Open (whatever they call that these days).

All that experience means that we really know how to put together a game.  We have a system of editing, play-testing, and review that assures our players of a fun time, year after year.  That’s why so many of them come back again and again.

NASCRAG also features dozens of pieces of original artwork from renowned artist, Bill "Indy" Cavalier.  There is nothing that pulls you into a scene like actual drawing of what you see.  No other event at Gen Con is nearly as well illustrated as a NASCRAG event.

Link to examples of artwork: http://nascrag.org/artists/indiana-bill-cavalier

    What We Do:

NASCRAG tournaments focus on role-playing, puzzle solving, and humor rather than combat tactics and dice rolling.  Cheesy accents are not only allowed, they are encouraged!  If you’re looking for strategy, tactics, and lots of combat, you might want to try the D+D Open instead.

The 2011 NASCRAG event will be

NASCRAG Presents: Stolen Lives - "Reality's Bite":

A three round, single elimination tournament, in which teams of six compete to advance.  Up to 25 of the best teams will go on to the second round, and as many as 15 will compete for Honor! Glory! And Prizes! in the third round.  Please Note: you do not have to have a team to play.  We will find you a team, or make up a new one!

    Event Description

Just how did a pirate, a pointy-toothed teenager, and a tree-hugger get lost on an island with a poser wizard and an old battle-axe of a fighter? And is that half-orc a dude or a lady? Don’t be left holding the bag. Get ready for some role-playing, puzzle solving goodness for our 32st consecutive year at Gen Con. A 3 round, team advancement tournament. Round 2: Saturday @ 1 pm. Round 3: Saturday @ 7 pm. Awards party: Saturday @ 11 pm.

Stolen Lives is a new series of Nascrag events written by the New and Improved Game Mechanics - Former Nascrag Tournament Champions.

    Nascrag Playtest this weekend

This is our big playtest weekend.  All three rounds get their official shakedown runs and much fun is had with old friends from out of town.

Round one is in it's final form at this point.  And Round 2 just got a major haircut due to running time concerns.  We should be good to go there.

Round 3 gets unveiled for the first time tomorrow though.  With any luck it'll be as solid as it looks, we'll do a little editing, and send it off to California for the West Coast Nascraggers to give it a final play.

Every round gets 3-5 playtests to make sure that it plays smoothly and can be finished in a normal GenCon slot (and, of course, it's an excuse to get together and play D&D).

    Re: Nascrag Playtest this weekend

We had a great turnout for our playtests last weekend.  We got 5 of them in two days.  Exhausting.  It's not just playing, but we debrief afterwards and that can take an hour or 90 minutes each.

This is one of the funniest Nascrag events we've had in a long time.  I can just imagine how our players, in Con-mode, are going to react to these characters and situations.  Big Smile

    NascragMan,

You are such a tease!  With a build-up like that, how are we supposed to wait until August?  Can't wait to play this year's event!

Re: Welcome to Nascrag - 2011

Looking forward to it. Thinking about who on our team will play which character. Should we expect any more details about the characters to come out before we arrive at Round 1?

Re: Welcome to Nascrag - 2011

Well, I've always contended that we should share more info, but not all players like to share details of their characters with their teammates.  I get outvoted on this one every year.

You can infer a lot from the full body illustrations on Flickr and the event description.

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/nascrag/sets/72157626509777080/with/5624803075/

And very observant and clever players might be able to divine a clue from the updated Wikipedia entry
