    Just so I know

    for next year...

is it considered bad form to smuggle in rum and dump it in your coke in the bathroom for the purpose of cruising Gencon buzzed?

Only if you're under 21....and if you get caught...and if you don't offer to share it with me.

I think this is more appropriate than some of the other stuff going around the 'Con.  Some of it is gamer funk...other times it is reffer reek.

    Re: Just so I know

Yeah, technically it IS bad form; can't have open containers like that in the convention center, can't bring outside stuff inside the convention center, there's lots of reasons that's probably a bad idea.  But, as long as you're able to maintain your composure, and are still relatively sober, AND over 21; no rule against smuggling a little in, in your tummy.  But remember, to keep your maximum gaming wits about you, it's better to game sober. :)

    Re: Just so I know

While I am all for the smuggling of food and non-adult beverages into the con center, when it comes to alcohol that is where I agree with the policy and would turn someone in. There are enough locations with the various hotels and restaurants that if you want to drink fiine. But for those of us running games we really don't need the added burden of drunk players as well. So go ahead and smuggle the coke in but if you must drink adult beverages do it off premisis where it is allowed. I realize for many attendees drinking with your friends is a part of Gen Con and I will have a nightcap at the RAM as well but when it comes to the gaming areas please try to stay sober.

I agree with Rogue2. Alcohol sometimes makes people stupid. Stupid people in bars can be funny. Stupid people in my rpgs or board games are just annoying. Stupid people in room parties are the best of fun. Chose your stupid wisely.

    Re: Just so I know

Well there goes my screwdriver idea for next year...

Seriously, though, there are enough places around the convention center to get a drink without having to smuggle it into the Convention Center.  I second Rogue2 on the burden of drunk players.  I played in a few late night games of Are You a Werewolf? and some of them were totally ruined by the one person who was drunk.

If you can get away with it and keep your wits as marrimac said, more power to you, but don't be mad when you get thrown out.  Personally, I like GenCon too much to risk it.

    Wait wait wait.

I'm stupid all the time, being drunk just makes me funny stupid instead of annoying stupid.

You should be trying to get me drunk all the time.

    Re: Just so I know

Simone - if you are over 21 there are plenty of bars around town people can drink at. Heck they were even serving alcohol (for a price) at the Tavern (no profit went to the Tavern, it was all the Marriotts businness).

But if you are playing in a game in the convention center, it's bad form to come in drunk and act like an ASS in front of other players.

There's really no reason to bring alcohol into the convention center. There are plenty of bars and restaurants in and around the adjoining hotels that allow and even encourage gaming while drinking (and eating). Even drinking while gaming in the hotel lobbies would be preferable to the convention center, IMHO.

Perhaps the lack of alcohol at gencon is a good reason why the majority of you are still virgins.

LOL. C'mon be reasonable. How would you like it if your gm, for the game you just spent cash to get into, was drunk enough to forget rules, continuity, who did what or when? It's bad enough to 'forget' to shower.

I play Mmorpgs. Inevitably you get in a pick up group and someone is home getting drunk or high. No big deal, we laugh about it. Until the party gets wiped because our drunk priestess decides to go afk at the wrong time for 'one more shot'. It's a game, no biggie, we've all been there, but damn can it be annoying.

    Re: Just so I know

Hey, I've got an idea, how about everyone pick up a stick and beat me over the head with it.  Doesn't that sound like fun?

I'm still curious as to how my silly little question was madly transformed from me innocently cruising a convention slightly buzzed to me ruining an RPG by showing up completely drunk.

Yeah, cause getting soused makes you so cool. Pfft. I think your lack of social graces is a good reason why no one takes you seriously.

AWESOME! I'm a married woman with 2 children and have managed to stay a virgin! Let me go tell my husband that, he will be quite happy about that news!

Nobody said NO alcohol at gencon. It is just advised not in the convention center itself!

Ah, Lola, nothing wrong with an innocent buzz. Don't see why you'd need a whole bottle of booze for that, but I'm a lightweight. I'd just caution bringing a big bottle to the Con center.

    Re: Just so I know

    This is funny stuff.

I, personally, don't drink while I game (and I don't do drugs other than alcohol, just for the record) UNLESS that game actually works well with drinking.  Paranoia and Tales from the Floating Vagabond come to mind....

Now I'm not saying it's stupid or wrong to drink and game, only that I don't do it.  As for drinking in the Con Center....   I'm sure there are enough people who saw me last year at So Cal to know this doesn't bother me, in fact I condone it whole heartedly.  (Lesimony, keep yer yap closed about the drunken "TD run" on saturday night......it's a secret...really.....I swear!  Would I lie?)

I know people will think I'm a drunk or an alcoholic. Truth is I drink at most once a week.  And I've not touched a drop in 3 weeks.  I'm a social drinker and if I am in a situation where being 2 sheets to the wind looks like fun, BRING IT.
