    Gen Con UN 2008

Hey there UNers... Since they retired the old GEN CON UN thread, I thought it should be started again.

Now that everyone has gotten a chance to settle back into their old routine, how have you folks been?

Same old. Still looking for my promotion, hopefully I'll get it by the end of the year. Its importante because I need to finance my next Gen Con trip. Still looking for friends to come over so I can split a room with someone. Maybe we can start a program for GCUNers !! We could split room costs if some of you are traveling alone. I didn't do it this year cause it was kinda weird sharing a room with someone I don't know anything about, but I guess next year I might be up for it with some of my GCUN friend (s)

Oh, hi!  I just found the new thread.

I'm doing well here.  I finally sold my house, and I'm currently spending every minute I can spare to search for the next one.  I should have something soon, there are tons for sale in this market.

Not much else to say right now, I'll check back in later.

I am hoping to get a nice chunk back from Uncle Sam at tax time and plan on putting away a big percentage for GenCon.  I promised my oldest son he could come so that means lots of extra expenses.  I think I am going to make hiom cover his meals though.  Being on college and working I think he can swing at least that!

    lol...

    In 16-18 months Indifferent

I Pre-bought an apartment, its a lot cheaper than buying something that's already completed + there's a lot of benefits, like paying the first part of the deal through 16-18 months with no interests charged my way. Also, I get first dibbs on the apartment number and some other niceties. I also have more time to save up and make my loan smaller.

Anyways, if I can't find very cheap lodging, GenCon 08 seems hard to achieve. Maybe some GenCon UNer can help with some floorspace @ their room. I'd obiously pay my part for the room, but I guess its a lot cheaper to share a room than get one for yourself and I tried getting my friends here to come with me, but *sigh* no success yet.

    Re: Gen Con UN 2008

Hi all.  I've been out of touch with everyone except Hector, who has kept me busy with all sorts of facebook invitations.  Unfortunately, I just don't have the time to correspond on facebook like some others.  Life since Gen Con has been routine.  It's all about the kids, as many of you know.  That has been especially true as we made it through the holidays.

I will definitely be at GenCon this year.  I will be staying with some friends from my local gaming group.  If we find ourselves with extra space, I will let it be known, but it is unlikely.  I do think it's a great idea for UN members to share space if coming alone.  Not only will you have cheaper accomodations, but you will also have a nice location set up for UN festivities.

I must admit I have done nothing to prepare for the proposed Cthulhu LARP.  Did we ever decide what scenario would would do?  Who will take the lead?  (I think it was Hector, but I am not sure.)  How we get our event included in Wednesday night gaming?

I'll check back soon.  But I fear I won't be on this site regularly for some time.  Maybe a couple times a week.

One more thing.  I am all for setting up a GenCon 2008 UN shirt, but I believe this time we can set it up where we directly purchase it from the manufacturer.  It may cost a couple of extra bucks each, but that way no one takes the risk of getting stuck with 5 shirts they don't need.  To that end,if anyone has any design ideas, please feel free to post them.  It will be hard to top Alex's design from last year.

    Hey Gang,

*waves to Hector, Will and the rest of the crew*

My apologies for my absence of late. Real life has a nasty habit of getting in the way of things. But its all good. Glad to see another UN thread is up and running again.

Has anyone heard from LordoftheNerf or the rest of the gang. I unfortunately lost touch after the con with them. Last I heard Lord was working with our Indy ambassador to scout out locations for this upcoming Gen Con and something about a larp?

Anywhoo, glad to see you all. Hopefully I can make it out this year. Job and money concerns are making things iffy but I'm darn well going to try my best to get out there again.

    Re: Gen Con UN 2008

Good to hear from the Canuck!

I think everyone but Hector lost touch in the last 4-5 months, which is only natural.  I believe (and I could be so wrong about this) the way things were left was that we were going to try to present a Cthulhu LARP on the Wednesday night before the Con.  InfoGoddess was going to look into how to get space and get GenCon approval.  Nerf, Hector, and I all expressed interest in helping put the LARP together.  Hector and I both put forward ideas for the storyline, but I do not believe one was officially chosen.  I do believe Hector invested in the Cthulhu Live publications, which is good.  So now I just await word from the other players on how we will proceed.

One concern: I worry that some of our international friends may not be able to attend GenCon this year.  Alex certainly seemed interested, but both Hector and you, Matt, have indicated a possibility that you won't be able to attend.  If that is the case, woe is the GenCon UN.  We would be missing our delegates from the other North American countries.  Somehow we will survive, even without our fearless leader.  But I worry if we will have the resources to run the LARP in the event we do not have the UN members available like we hoped.  This is not meant to apply pressure for you to attend in the least.  It is just an observation.

    Hello!

Im glad someone mentioned the larp dealy..i know we all kind of threw it in the air and I had not heard if we were gonna try and pull it off or not. I think the closer it gets to badge reg the better we might be able to put it together.

    Hi Everybody!

I was surfing and noticed that others had found this thread.  The UN Larp is still on, as far as I know.  If anyone wants to join in, just go to the following freeforums UN site and sign up.  Most of you are there already.  Anyone who has ideas for the running of the event, PLEASE express your ideas.  I've never been in a Larp or Chthulu event before and would love to know everything anyone has to share.

    http://www.freeforums.in/phpbb/index.php?sid=261d22343bacbdfb9e2551df92680c6b&mforum=gcun

    I hope that works.

Anyway, glad to see everyone made it through the holidays and I hope to hear from you.

Well I definitely want to attend and plan to do so. Just a couple of things have to fall into place before I know for sure. Mostly the money and if I can get off work for that week.

I would definately be up for the LARP. I've never done it and it sounds interesting. However, I'm going with the hope for the best expect the worst mentality here.

As far as being fearless leader, we could always have elections. LOL How long is the presidency for the UN?

As The Bundy mentions, we have the forum listed above and we're using it to plan the LARP. Bundy has made some great contributions, but it seems everything stalled with the Holidays. I think I'll have some time this weekend to start writing again.

Help will be greatly appreciated, as the time for our Great Cthulhu LARP draws near !
