Looking for a few good role players.

The Wyld Stallyns are looking for two, possibly three more teammates.  We're really role-playing / character heavy.  There will be costumes, there will be bad accents, there will be much rejoicing.  Let me know if you're looking for a team, and don't mind being amongst crazy persons.  You will be replacing the likes of Mike B and NZ Knight, if that gives you a bar for "nutters".  We like nutters.

Also, as much of the group is not present, we will most likely be under a new name.  I don't think we're ever going to top "Wyld Stalins", anyway (four legs good!  two legs baaaaaaad!).  I have some ideas for this, but I'm quite open to hilarity.

    foXXtail,

I am looking for a team for Nascrag.  I've dm'd D&D forever but this will be my first Nascrag.  I am looking forward to the experience of a group with emphasis on the RP of "rpg", and hope to fit the bill for an additional castmate in your crew of nutters.

If you want to try giving this greenhorn a chance, PM with details and we can discuss all the particulars.

The best teams (*cough* Donut Disciples *cough, cough*) have a mix of roleplayers and puzzle solvers.  It's nice to have folks who can do both of course.

But sometimes you'll have people who can actually do the math to calculate the number of peas in the milk pail when you really need people who say, "OK, that's unsolvable, there must be a trick to this."

It's not nice (but certainly fair) to pick on us math nerds that see a story problem around every corner.  Wink

It's good to have people in your party that start to do the math, and others that say, "no wait.....it's a riddle." And then solve it.

It does however amuse the judges to have people work really hard on unsolvable problems.  Unfortunately, it also wastes a lot of time.

    Have fun.

What was that, darlin'?  I do believe Ah would have solved that puzzle if you'd just giv'n me a couple more minutes.

Sure, but the boundary effects are unpredictable, the peas are unlikely to be perfectly regular, and the packing is almost certainly nonoptimal.

Also, they wanted an exact number, and the ballpark figure was in the millions.  Had to be a set up.

*Ahem*  I mean like, there were totally bogus externialities dude.  Bad karma.

Not that I recognized the set up.  But a teammate noticed my nanotechnologist wife and I arguing about he figure and twigged.

Ok, remind me. Which session of which year was this in? It sounds familiar, but I haven't been able to place it yet.

Well, of course the peas aren't going to be regular, but their diameter is small enough compared to the size of the pail that they can be assumed to be regular.  You'd have to have a good idea about the average diameter, but that's not too difficult.  As for the packing cooefficient non-optimal packing of spheroids in a sufficently large container is... what.... .60 or so?

Um.... I mean... role playing is fun!

    1.  1 pea.

Also, thanks to the people who have gotten back to me re: joining team.  I'll be sending out some info once I get some down time.

Today is my last day at the job I've had for 9 years.  I'm.... disoriented.

Re: Looking for a few good role players.

The ouzzle was deliberately evil in that it defined the peas as all being an exact regular sphere with a particular diameter and the pail as a precise cylinder.

Andy, it was second year, first session, the contest to get tickets to the ball with the crazy nuns.

I realize you were distraced by your Sweetie (RL and RP).

It wasn't as evil as the heffalump.  ;)

The puzzle was an actual bucket of peas, so I filed any claimed regularity as "unlikely."  I guess they could be migical peas of preciseness or something, but that seems a little far for a carnival game.  (That said, actual Brazilians are pretty serious about Carnivale, so I guess it's not unthinkable.)  The packing problems are still there even for precise cylinders and precise spheres, in any case.  In spite of all this, I was still chuggin along at refining my estimate when Karen twigged on the 5min clue.

     IIRC, average diameter was given.

    Optimal packing is 0.74048...

Irregular packing averages out to 0.64, but depends on taps, etc.

Note that neither of those numbers is precise enough to give an unambiguous answer of 6+ sig figs, even neglecting edge effects at the walls...

I mean, ... um ... that I could have like, brewed some totally righteous pea-mead with those leg-oom-aez at my dad's winery using my endless bucket of hunney man.

Ghu, the endless bucket of hunney was fun.  Best.  Control.  Panel.  Sabotage.  Ever.

Not to mention being distracted by having fainting spells in RL, but this is starting to come back to me ...

That was the year that Greg played the halfing pretending that I as Tacoma was his mother and Alex as Jules was his father -- hilarious.

I have the adventure on CD from the first and third year, but not the second. Didn't we get the other ticket to the ball by Greg as Connor winning some sort of competition that was supposed to be played by children?!

Re: Looking for a few good role players.

NZK:  Sorry to hear you won't make it.  Contact Carole through the website after the Con and she can hook you up with a PDF, if you are interested.

In fact, anyone interested in the adventures should contact her.  http://www.nascrag.org/contact

Anyone prepping for the event by rereading some of the older adventures, probably would be well advised to look more at the Seconds Series - http://www.nascrag.org/series/seconds - written by this year's authors, the Filking Weiners (Randal Cox, Mike Watts, Mike Collins, and Mark Frey), rather than looking at the Small Problems series (written by Yours Truly).  The weiners and I have somewhat different styles, although in the end it's all Nascrag.

Unfortunately fate has conspired against me making it to the con this year. I hope that you guys do well. I would have really liked to play in the game this year, but what can you do. Good luck and take first!

Mother of Mercy! Is this the end of the Oscar Wylde Stalyns!?!?

I hope not. Narcissica I believe is gonna fill Mike B's funky shoes. Come on folks, let's get a new roster to fill out the ranks. Narcissica and foXXtail are both top-notch roleplayers, and you really are halfway to the winner's circle joining them.
