    Auction payment

Hi, I intend to put a number of fairly pricey items into the auction.

When I come to collecting my ill-gotten gains, will I get paid in cash, or can I get a bank transfer to my account, or even a credit to my Credit Card at all please?

     Anyone know?

    Cheers,
    malc

In years past, if they've had enough on hand, they can pay you in cash. (They've also had the option where you could stop by early and collect a partial pay-out.) Otherwise, they'll cut you a check. I haven't seen any direct deposits or balance transfers or anything like that.

Like I said, that's in years past. I don't know what their plans are for this year.

Last year on Sunday, we processed payouts with cash.  There was a cash maximum (I believe up to $300, or $400) and then the rest of the balance was paid by check.

I cannot comment on partial payments - can't remember if those were done last year or if Bruce/Jon are planning on doing that this year.

We'll pay either in cash or with check.  We put a limit on the amount we'll give out in cash, just so we have enough to give to any seller who wants cash.  The actual limit is set on Sunday after we see how much cash we have on hand.  The rest gets paid by check.  We don't have the facility to do other payment methods, though if you wanted, I could do a PAYPAL transfer to your account...

This could actually be a VERY beneficial bit of information to promote, with the increasing number of people that posess Paypal accounts.  I would personally prefer to receive my funds that way, saving you the cash on hand for others--and giving me access to my funds almost immediately anyway--as I have a Paypal debit card.

Interesting. Can you take PayPal payments then, too?

    Re: Auction payment

Yep - I can pay sellers this way, but we can't accept Paypal at the action...here's why:

Paypal has a very bad policy when it comes to refunds...If the seller (that would be the auction) doesn't have a shipment record from a major shipper (e..g. UPS, Fed-ex, USPS), they AUTOMATICALLY will refund the money to the buyer.  No appeal process, nothing.  My partner (Jon Huston) actually had this happen:

    1) Seller bids on and wins an item
    2) Pays for the item using paypal and takes it home
    3) Seller "disputes" the payment with paypal.
    4) Paypal credits sellers account and debits Auction account
    5) We're out the item and the money including the amount we paid to the consignor !

    I never knew that. Interesting.

I didn't know about it either, until Jon told me.  They may have changed their policy by now, but it's not worth the risk.

    Re: Auction payment

They have not changed that...I have had it happen to me also recently. As of late, I have stopped accepting Paypal for expensive items and only send items with tracking to help cut down on the few that would do this to a seller. As Always, the "BAD" apples mess it up for most of us.
