Compile for Linux? Mac? Platform independence?

My main desktop box is an Ubuntu Linux machine and so I'm rather left out in the cold here... I've played quite a bit on my Windows laptop and really enjoy the game. I really suggest Spectromancer be compiled for other platforms  -- particularly, Mac is especially common as a household computer. The Windows home computer market share is steadily dropping these days.

An even better approach would be to start converting project code into a platform independent language like Java. But certainly, as it is, Spectromancer has a pretty limited user base, mostly of players who are only here as they know of the team members' past works. Further dividing up that pool of users by enforcing strict generally non-universal system requirements is a glaring flaw -- I really think it's a big issue and should be addressed as early as possible (otherwise there's a pretty huge chance it'll never be addressed at all)

AFAIK it works on MAC under windows emulation.

Re: Compile for Linux? Mac? Platform independence?

Running with WINE (Windows emulator) on my Linux, I am able to run the msi installer just fine. Upon running Spectromancer, however, the window just opens and starts flashing every color of the rainbow before crashing with:

"Exception EAccessViolation in module Spectromancer.exe at 0001CD08

Acces violation at address 0041CD08 in module Spectromancer.exe

    Write of address 0000000D ."

Though, I really don't quite expect running through windows emulation to be supported, I guess.

I think it would be much better and easier to adopt the game for popular emulation software rather than create/maintain separate versions for different platforms.
