    What's Your Plans?

I'm just wondering what people are bringing to the contest this year. I understand if some of you really want to keep it secret, but I just wanted to know what all is going to be there. I've dressed up the last 4 years I've come to GenCon and I have never been in the contest. I want to join it this year because recently I have started going to anime convention contests.

I personally haven't decided what I want to enter yet. I have an awesome steampunk costume, I am working on a World of Warcraft costume, and I am for sure making Presto and Shiela from DnD the animated series for me and my boyfriend for sure. I'll probably only bring one of two of those costumes, but I can't decide which one I would rather enter.

     What are you guys bringing?

Thinking about Wolverine. The big problem would be claws that look good, and won't actually eviscerate things.

My girlfriend and I are going as Jareth, the goblin king, and one of the goblins from Labyrinth and doing a full Latin dance number.

    Re: What's Your Plans?

Seems like as soon as I get my crew committed to something, they change their minds. Originally, we were all going as our GAIA avatars but that got too complicated.

As of today I'm going as Selene from Underworld, my daughter and her boyfriend are Chinese warriors from Dynasty Wars, my youngest kid is Jupiter Moon and my other son still can't make up his mind.  We might also have a Mario and an Itachi in our group, I'm not sure yet.

I'm having a heck of a time putting together my steampunk ensemble as I tend to be more punk than steam.  I figure I'll throw something together with one of my corsets and hope it doesn't look too ridiculous.

Hmm... could work pretty well, actually.  Where are you from?  I may know some good coaches near you.

Wow, the ideas all sound really great!  I have some interesting things churning in my brain--but my schedule just may be full already.  I can't wait to see folks walking around in their costumes either way though. Yes

I'm going as Talim from Soul Calibur 3, although I'm not sure if I am going to enter the contest yet.

I'm officially out this year.  I won't have any time to prepare.  :(

I have costumes, but since my friends only come to Gen Con on Saturday, I can't afford to lose the time it takes to be in the contest.

Not having time for the contest shouldn't keep you from dressing up if you want to.    Last year there were loads of people in costume who didn't compete and they were the ones that got my kids (and me) convinced that we should do it this year.  Seeing people cosplay is a big part of the fun for both the little ones and even some of us old farts.

I totally agree!!  I plan on being in a Crystal Fairy costume all day Friday, a Zombie costume on Friday night, and the other days are either still being worked on or are going to be a surprise!  Wink

Unfortunately, I need a room and two people to help me get my main costume on, so it just isn't gonna happen this year.  Plus, I can only wear it for a couple of hours--its extremely hot.

Just to throw my two cents in, I too encouraging dressing up even if you aren't in the costume contest.

I mean that is part of why I attend! I can dress up and be silly! When else can you dress up in costumes for four days in a row and it be perfectly okay?

Teehee. For me that is part of the fun of the convention.

    I have to echo this!

I never compete, its just not about that for me, but this year I'll be going as a Southern Belle and I'll also bring my Steampunk costume :)

     Tehana,

I have a battenburg lace parasol and matching fan if you'd like to borrow it.

This year young doctor Frankenstein has been busy and is bringing 3 of his creations along with his lab helper Egor and his lovely assistant Inga.

This project has not been going as well as planned, but we think we have enough in place to actually get it to fly this time.  Hopefully none of us drops our canes during the dance routine!

See you there. (Yes, I'll be the largest of the creatures.)

It takes a real man to wear tights!

    Re: What's Your Plans?

Adding the steampunk theme to the dance has just made it doubly fun.  Although since I'm costuming myself and 4 teens, I'm working my fanny off these days.  My daughter and her boyfriend pulled together these outfits a few weeks ago and we've been adding bits and pieces to them since.

Nice!  I look forward to seeing it!  But good luck picking me out dressed as myself!
