Can/Will the Auction take *this item*?

Thought I'd start a new thread and ask If the Auction could take/sell specific items not specifically covered by the Auction FAQ.

The auction usually has everything in hobby gaming -- games and accessories, spare parts, rulebooks, adventures, figures and paints, collectible cards, video games, computer games, and more. Related items Star Trek and Star Wars memorabilia, fiction and reference books, toys, artworks and sculpture, and of course comic books, such as Wolverine #1 and Knights of the Dinner Table. As a general rule they do not accept food or living beings of any sort, Humanoid or otherwise. Check actual rules at the auction you are attending to any exceptions from this list.

What I've got is a two "Fantasy Knives" and four Shuriken (Throwing stars). (Not speciffically covered in the FAQ, thus my question! :) )

Both knives are steel blades and slightly sharpened, though they are of course primarily for display. Both are pretty cool though. Smile I'll see about getting a picture of them up on my web site and linking them here if necessary.

The four Shuriken each come in an individual nylon snap closed pouch with a belt loop on the back so they can be worn. All four are unused.

Can the auction accomidate them? Or should I leave my weaponry at home? Well, some of my weaponry anyway... Stick out tongue

Of course we'll sell it.  If the items are weapons like these, the buyer can't walk around carrying them...(see GenCon's ban on doing so).  But dealers in the dealer's area sell the stuff, and just bag/box the item so it can't present an accidental hazard.

We've sold swords, knives, and yes shuriken in the past !

I really figured it'd be no big deal, but at the same time thought I'd better ask. :) The knife designs are really pretty freakin' cool. I just don't have anywhere left in my office to display them! To many other weapons /fantasy artwork already on the walls. Big Smile

Re: Can/Will the Auction take *this item*?

I found some record albums at a rummage sale last month. These albums have nothing to do with science-fiction, fantasy, or gaming, but for some reason I still picked them up. Three feature Rusty Warren, a bawdy and risque comedienne from the early '60s ("Banned in Boston," "Rusty Warren Bounces Back," and "Sin-Sational Rusty Warren"), another "The Songs and Comedy of the Smothers Brothers (recorded at the Purple Onion, San Francisco)," and the last, "The First Nine Months Are The Hardest," directed by Carl Reiner.

I also found a copy of "Harold and the Purple Crayon" by Crockett Johnson, hardcover, Harper & Row Publishers. It carries the Scholastic Book Service imprint and, even though the copyright is 1955, I'm thinking it might not be quite that old. I haven't been having any luck narrowing down a print year though, not through Amazon or BookButler. If it is over 50 years old, it's in pretty good shape. There's a little staining on the cover, the binding's a bit worn, and a kid just had to write his phone number on the back. (ISBN's 0-590-75945-0)

I was thinking about trying for the Collectibles section of the Auction, but I'm also open to the Charity section -- if they're even viable for the auction.

    Thoughts?

ISBNs started being used in 1970. Just an FYI.

The collectables section is normally reserved for items of definite interest to gamers.  They are definitely viable for the auction (we've sold anime, old computer equipment, etc. in the past, so why not albums?).

You could donate them to the charity auction.  Or another option is to put them in the auction store where many people will see them over the weekend.  You can even have three separate prices (Thus, Fri, and Sat price) so you can have the price drop over time to make sure that you won't have to carry the albums home.

I thought that Scholastic didn't get started until the late sixties, but now the date with the ISBN'll help narrow down the date of print even better. Thanks!

I'm thinking I'll donate them to the Charity Auction. That's where they'll do the most good and it's probably the best chance for them to go.

I was just wondering how the auction felt about Ghettopoly.  I know that E-bay does not allow it to be sold and I was just wondering about the auction and their feelings about it.

     Thanks

I have an un-peeled window cling from Burger King of Chewbacca. Would that be accepted? Would anyone be interested in it?

Ya know... When you put it THAT way... ROFL

When I had some shuriken as a kid years ago I used a big log as my target, and the wear and tear on the points becomes obvious.

So yeah, they're unused, and all the points still look good. Stick out tongue

Pound Puppies?  Pez dispensers (relatively common ones, not rare)?

Sure - if you're willing to pay to put them in, we'll try auctioning them.  HOWEVER if you have a large number of lots of non-high-demand stuff, we may just auction slightly differently.  We put them on display and ask the audience to "preview" them over 15-20 minutes and if interested in a particular item we then bring that one to the podium and auction it.

A better way for the lower-popularity items is to put them into the auction store.  That way if even one visitor over the weekend wants the item at your price it gets sold.  The auction proper is better for the items in high-demand.
