    Bubba's Packing List

Well folks, it's time to start thinking about your GenCon packing list.  For the past few years, BHT and I have thought about creating a thread to create a generic list of items, mostly because BHT is still packing when I arrive at his house....and he always forgets something.

So, let's start from the top; I'll get us started.....:

Toothbrush (if you have more than one tooth, you need a teethbrush)

    Toothpaste (same as above)

    Anti-Stank

Hair stuff, for those of your cursed with it.

    comfy shoes

    pants/shorts/shirts/socks/long underwear

creams and ointments for various rashes and diseases

    prescription medication

    Re: Bubba's Packing List

     Dont forget these as well:

Razor and other grooming tools (applies to guys moreso than gals, but still both)

Extra comfy shoes (switching shoes daily helps me tremendously)

Something to prevent losing your voice (cough drops, throat lozenges(sp?), hard candy)

I'll assume 'Anti-Stank' above refers to deorderant/anti-persperant ... but adding colonge is never a bad idea

Did he really say 'long underwear'?????

A small 'First Aid' kit ... bandaids, med tape, TABO (triple Antibiotic ointment), your preferred headache tablets, Rolaids-Tums- etc for a bad meal, a list of current prescription meds and your Doc's tele

If your sharing a room, like most of us, I bring an extra pillow and bath sheet (yes the really huge towels)

NOTE: I drive, and I have boatloads of room, so my list is not restricted by load limits.

OH, good one!  First aid is really good too.

    Here's some more:

    Cell Phone Charger

Event Tickets (what are you laughing about, we've ALL forgotten them at one time or another)

    Copy of Hotel reservations

    Driving map, if needed

Really good socks.  If you are prone to blisters, try the synthetic, low friction kind or smart wool.  They work great.

    Copy of Hotel reservations

This one can be absolutely vital. SAVED us one year when the Hyatt couldn't seem to find our information, until presented with the printout. Then, miraculously there it was!

    Cell Phone Charger

Yes! I must write that one down right now, as it would easily be something I'd overlook. And while I'm semi-certain that my phone could go five days without being charged, it's definitely better to be safe than sorry.

And whle on the topic of charges, for those that are bringing a digital camera or other electronics that use rechargeable batteries, remember to bring the battery charger! And, if you're like me and take more pictures each year than is probably healthy, remember an extra memory card as well.

On a more feminine note, ladies should also bring some "personal" items along as well, just in case mother nature decides to strike. While the CVS is conveniently located, by the time you get there it might already be too late! Surprise

    Re: Bubba's Packing List

    • Bottled water for hotel room and con
    • Other misc. snacks
    • Beer/alcohal

I'd consider a case of bottled water a *must*.  Buying it on site is a total ripoff- you can buy a whole case at the grocery store for what you'd spend on one bottle at the con!  IMHO, hotel tap water just tastes like ass.  Whether you want to get hydrated in the morning or night, or if you're taking some medication, a bottled water comes in very handy.

Other snacks are good too, but don't over do it.  Dried fruit, peanuts, maybe a bag of chips- bring this both for convenience AND to save cash.  Personally I like roasted almonds.

Technically they don't allow outside alcohal (all alcohal?) in the convention center, but as long as you keep it discreet I've never had a problem with drinking a beer or two while gaming.

And the one thing to leave behind...

your itinerary/schedule with some people that are staying behind or family/friends.  Make sure it includes both your hotel/room number and at least 2 ways to get ahold of you in the event of emergencies.  Say, not only the direct line to the hotel but also the cell of someone with you.  If for any reason your housing changes, then be sure to notify the people back home about those changes.  Hopefully, you/they won't need it, but one of the AvatarArt mottos is, "'tis better to have it & not need it, than need it & not have it."

p.s. can someone please kill the bug that is circling in Bubba's banner?

One year, I was left at home while the man went to make sure that GenCon was good enough for the me and the littlen's .....I will never forget the call that came in to me and my friend (her man was doing the same thing) asking us to find a way for them there as they were stuck in a jam - we were being given names of creeks being past, mile markers and the like!   ROFL

Oh - did I forget this phone call was about the time that he also discovered he has left his True Dungeon tickets 4 states away - and I was racing to get to a FedEx/UPS store before the truck was due to arrive in 15 mins - so that the tickets would make it as his run was the NEXT DAY!

    Cell Phone Charger

I did forget my charger last year and it sucked.  My phone was acting as my watch and when that went down on the first day of the con I had to run over to the mall and buy a watch.  It also took me till Sat. before I found a place that sold car chargers for my cell phone.  I hope I learned my lesson.

    AAA card

    debit cards

    DRIVER'S LICENSE!!

I just came back from a trip to the beach.  While there, my driver's license, AAA cards, a debit card and two credit cards were in my cell phone case (so I wouldn't have to carry a purse while shopping earlier in the day) with $80 cash and my phone.  You guessed it. Lost.

I got the cards, license, and phone back. Cash gone.  AFTER I CANCELLED THE CARDS AND FILED A POLICE REPORT.  I was sure glad I had squirrelled away one debit card in the trunk of my car. It got me home.  Do not carry them all together.

I am glad I did. I called the Indiana License Branch when I got home to see what it would have taken to get a new license.  You don't even want to go through that....
