    So What Did You Buy?

I generally don't spend much in the hall, opting to use it as research for later purchases.  But this year I went a little crazy!

I bought a bunch of Armorcast terrain.

I bought Campaign coins and would have bought more had they not run out of certain denominations of gold.

I bought a variety of scenic materials from Gale Force Nine.

I was going to buy Battletech stuff from IWM and mini goodies from DP9, but realized I had to leave enough cash for cabs.  And I really had to fight Satan to avoid the credit card and getting the newest expansion to Descent a full month before its release.

     What did everyone else buy?

Except for Ending Slavery, Fascism, Nazism and Communism, War Has Never Solved Anything.

    My MySpace Page.

Re: So What Did You Buy?

Forgotten Realms book, and Magic cards for the kids from WotC

    Fat Dragon stuffs.

    RAM tshirts.

Those irresistable elven dice. Crystal Caste dice (FINALLY broke down, got the created opal ones).

A set of Dark Sword miniatures.

A game I don't remember, demo'd it, gave to kids, they absconded with it and I am too lazy to walk upstairs to look at it.

Some various party games, other books. Monsterpocalypse after someone at the Stink asked me to get it and then I forgot who so now it's mine.

Re: So What Did You Buy?

    HMM...where to begin...

A couple sourcebooks for Battletech from Catalyst Labs.

Assorted pieces of Miskatonic/HPL themed randomness; dice, stocking cap, keychain, etc.

A few rubber molds from Hirst Arts so I can try my hand at making some epic D&D settings. (I've gone through about 5lbs of plaster of Paris with these things since I've gotten home)

A leather bandoleer sword belt. The last piece required to complete my Musketeer outfit!!

A couple of modules from Goodman Games during their 3.5 inventory blowout.

Sad thing is I know I'm forgetting other stuff. Time to go through it all again!

Direct Link to a Swag Picture with Tag. Just hoover over the items.

I really wanted the BSG Board Game and Betrayal on the House on Haunted Hill, but BSG was sold out by the time I got a chance to go to the booth and I guess Betrayal is now out of print!

Other then that I am EXTREMELY happy with my purchases.

I wanted to buy this year's Gen Con T-shirt, but it was just too F-ing ugly. Between the "I ride the short bus" blue of the shirt itself and the cheap looking iron-on transfer, it didn't matter how good the artwork was. It might as well have been a glitter transfer of Alf or the Fonz. There have been much better T-shirts in the past.

Meanwhile, I thought that since the T-shirt was a bust, maybe I'd pick up a hoodie instead to replace the one I have with the Gen Con logo running down the sleeve that's seen better days. Unfortunately they were very plain, with a Gen Con logo where the breast pocket woud be. It had all the panache of a sweat shirt you'd get from an IBM corporate retreat.

C'mon guys, you're gamers. You're supposed to have imagination and a sense of design. If you want my money next year, you'll have to do a lot better.

Re: So What Did You Buy?

From the RAM, two t-shirts, a mug and a growler. Yay for 64 oz of Apocalypse Ale.

From the exhibit hall, I bought a set of dice (no collector's tin) from Crystal Caste. Got three d20 Modern supplements from Troll and Toad. Also got a couple of $2 books Sunday from a place whose name slips my mind currently. They were initially selling stuff buy 1 get 3 free.

I got two pieces of art: one was a dragon thing by Bill Stolpin, the other was a print of Gandalf crossing the Bridge of Khazad Dun in Fellowship of the Ring.

I stopped by Anime Depot and bought two copies of the new Robotech film: one for me, and the other for a coworker who's a big Robotech nut.

Of course, I got my autographed copy of Dorkness Rising.

Sunday afternoon, I bought autographs from Gail Kim and Peter Mayhew. Gail Kim was really cool in person, and my goodness, she is smoking hot. I think I nerded out more when meeting Mayhew, though.

I actually liked the color. For once it wasn't in black. AMEN FOR THAT. And it wasn't orange, or red or yellow, which make uh, my extra large form seem a whole lot more extra large.

I didn't look at the hoodies, but the tshirt was fine by me.

Some dice for a friend of a friend who is just getting in to gaming.

    A Ram Tshirt.

    And that is about it.

    The Chronek:
Also got a couple of $2 books Sunday from a place whose name slips my mind currently. They were initially selling stuff buy 1 get 3 free.

That would be Titan Games. I love that promotion, but I can never find 4 books I want when I visit them. I usually end up splitting the cost of the 1 book with a friend, and we get 2 each.

I didn't think I'd buy as much this year, but I got a lot:

    • lots of dice from Crystal Caste (Got to keep the wife happy)
    • a new dice bag for the wife (for her new dice, to keep her happy)
    • Forgotten Realms book
    • Wildcards setting from Green Ronin
    • H2 and H3 from WotC
    • DM's screen from WotC
    • 4 4e modules and 2 player booklets from Goodman
    • 3 E-Z Dungeon discs from Fat Dragon
    • City of the Gods from Dave Arneson (also preordered the 4e Blackmoor setting book)
    • about a dozen minis from Reaper
    • A bunch of magnetic markers from Alea Games
    • 2 discs from Midnight Syndicate
    • Dorkness Rising
    • Kill Doctor Lucky, and His Little Dog Too!!
    • Falling card game
    • Infernal Machine (and the expansion)
    • Haunting House game
    • New Order of the Stick book and magnet
    • Pathfinder Beta
    • Epic roleplaying system book
    • The Sorcerers book by Gary Gygax
    • a novel from the Writer's Alley area (I can't think of the name of it right now, but it was advertised on EN World a lot. The one about 6 gods sitting down to play a game)
    • a box of 1000 Magic cards from the Auction Store
    • A Monsterpocolipse mug, a Drizzt growler, and matching tshirts at the Ram
    • 2 Gencon tshirts
    • two more tshirts from the guy who lowers his price every day

On top of that, I got some cool stuff during the charity auction:

    • Hand painted dice bag (The only one done in full color I believe)
    • Godsend source book (superlink version)
    • Godsend Mythos (Non-superlink. Bought by mistake, but I can convert it and it was for charity)
    • Call of Cthulu dice by Q Workshop
    • Call of Cthulu audio cd of what sounds like an old radio show version of the Dunwich Horror
    • a set of the test dice
    • a few figures from Wyrd

Wow...I didn't even realize I had gotten that much.

It was mostly cash. I save my tax return for just such a purpose. I did a few things on cards, mostly at the Paizo booth because I am a Pathfinder subscriber, and I get a discount on anything in their booth. All my info (email etc) is connected to my card, so that ensures I get that discount.

Re: So What Did You Buy?

I found the layout of the exhibit hall horrible - too many areas that made it hard to miss things when you are trying to systematically walk through the entire hall.

With that said, spent most of my money in the auction - various games (Cleopatra from DoW, Runebound, Twixt, Zombies 1-3.5 to name a few).

Got two dice bags (two of the less decorated ones), 3 tshirts (lerrroooooyyyy jenkins), and signed copy of the game Thugs in the charity auction.

From Dark Sword Miniatures (finally found them on Sunday), picked up the complete set of Wildlings (Game of Thrones) and also picked up the Jon Snow and Night Watch Raven Keeper minis.

Re: So What Did You Buy?

I purchased two sets of small D-10s (Blue and Black), a pitcher full of pretty random dice (I love dice), a mini from Dark Sword, 2 books from the Least I could do booth, the Trailer Park game, 4 Lord of the Rings RP books, 2 paint brushes as I had left mine at home, a bottle of brown paint from Reaper, 3 more sets from Fat Dragon, a chainmaile dice bag for my husband, and a big squish D-20 to keep by my side during our RP campeign to throw at our GM (luckily, I happen to be married to my GM, so he puts up with me). Also, I got the DVD from Kracken Mini's on how to paint. I took Jeremy's class and loved it.

Re: So What Did You Buy?

First time at GenCon for my wife and I so we went a bit crazy. Ok, alot crazy.

    From the exhibit hall,

Falling the card game from the Paizo booth

Duality from the Cloud Keepers (I think that was the name, they had a riddle every hour) booth

Are you a Werewolf cards, first time playing at the con and had a blast

Munchkin Booty and the Munchkin Demented Dungeons expansion

2 sets of dice from Crystal Caste, one for me, one for the wife

The wife bought 3 or 4 pieces of artwork in the artist alley, don't recall from who

Some patches from the vendor right next to the side door entrance

    Various t-shirts

Say Anything from the North Star Games booth (one of my favorite booths from the entire con for demos and fun)

One copy of everything they had from Troll Lord Games

Bunch of random booster and starter packs for a couple CCG's that I used to play that are no longer around

From the auction and charity auction,

a purple chainmail dicebag and a green chainmail dicebag

the wife bought one of the handmade dice bags with the parasol on it

    Leeroy Jenkins WoW TCG shirt

    2nd Edition Complete Talisman

Both the Red and Blue boxed D&D sets (The basic set was advertised complete but when I actually checked hours later, no keep of the borderlands, doh!)

Set of DM Guide, Players Guide, Monster Manual and Oriental Adventures for 2nd Edition D&D

Spectral Tiger playmat for the WoW TCG which we then got autographed by the artist, who'd never seen it before, woo!

And I think that's it. We definitely underestimated the amount of fun stuff we'd want to buy..we already decided next year we're just going to budget X amount for the Dealer's Hall and X amount for the auction where we found ourselves spending a surprising amount of time.

I didn't really buy that much:

Murder in Tarsis by John Maddox Roberts (I picked up Murder in Halruaa on a whim at Gen Con 06 and absolutely loved it, but hadn't been able to find the other two anywhere. Saw this in the Auction Store and grabbed it quick!)

Some dice from Chessex (from their random dice bins)

A big lot of 40 Horrorclix, plus cards, etc. in the auction store

A starter box of Horrorclix, also from the auction store
