    Post GENCON blah

I avoided the Post Gencon Ick....lots of OJ, vitamin C, and a daily vitamin, plus some solid shut eye.

But I do have the post Gencon malaise.  Sitting here at my desk in my office at work, I feel supremely blah about being here and would prefer to be back in Indy at the gaming table Sad

My promise: I will enjoy Gencon, despite the people who run it and the poor customer service they provide.

I feel your pain. :( No sickness here, but everything just feels...bleh. My last couple of days at work have been spent refreshing the gencon forums every five minutes and looking at all the pictures. My wife is in the same boat too, she wants to start planning and making reservations for next year so maybe that'll help alleviate it. Then we'll have something to countdown to again. :D

Yeah, I'm feeling it.  I am trying to stave it off by starting to plan a 4e game to run next year.  It may take me that long to figure it all out.

    Re: Post GENCON blah

The highs of the con, have now withered away with the onset of reality and job. It happens every year. I go into a funk for about a week or two. Like today for instance I was thinking how just a week ago i was just starting the con and looking forward to the Stink.

It happens every year, but atleast I didn't get a cold, or some other ungodly virus. Just a wee bit of dry sore throat. Thats a plus I guess.

I always take the week after off, so I segue back into civilian life a bit easier.

    Re: Post GENCON blah

Just back to work today. Trying to get back into using spreadsheets for the job, not just tweaking character sheets. I hope I don't accidentally attach and  send a second level Cleric to my boss, instead of the project I'm working on.

What would be funny is if your boss looked at the cleric and thought "Hey, this is the answer to all of our business issues! Now, if you can explain to me how the 18 Wisdom can save us money on our roller skate line, you get a bonus!"

But seriously, I'm totally in the post GenCon funk myself. Colors don't seem as bright, work seems more mundane than usual. Thankfully, I have some friends who are normally only board gamers asking me about 4E, so I may have to break down and start running a game again after an 8 year hiatus. Hopefully it will pull me out of the funk :-)

I guess what goes up really must come down.  I feel this too. It's kind of depressing really, I gotta get busy and do some things, unpacking makes it worse though.

I have been pretty blah too. I had to go back to work on Monday. I hate unpacking, so I have avoided it so far. But I don't think hubby will let me get away with waiting too much longer.

    Re: Post GENCON blah

I like coming home. I unpack right away. I did all our laundry (4 of us) before Monday night. I restocked the fridge, cuddled the cats, went back to school... nope no malaise.  Guess I'm weird.

But then again, I mostly socialize. I don't spend alot of cash on games (we always have everything already it seems) so the dealers hall bores me. I could care less about SWAG, it's usually just crap that sits around the house and you can't even give it away on Ebay. I enjoy gaming with game creators and friends, but this year I only got one awesome RPG in, (due to the cold that knocked everyone out). I like SPA events because they're different, but most of my gaming is done at Origins.

If I didn't live with a houseful of gamers, I might feel something. Right now I'm burned out.

I've suffered from the post Gen Con blahs in the past, but not so much this year. Maybe I'm happier in my normal life now than I have been in the past? I was a bit down after I said goodbye to all my friends and headed off to the Indianapolis airport on my own, but once I got home I was fine.

Maybe it would help if we didn't look at it as "gen-con 2008 is over" but looked at it as "Hey less than a year til gen-con 2009"

I have to admit that I'm feeling the blahs too. Mostly because I haven't walked so much in my life LOL. I did have to rest frequently with my RA and all, but I think it was all worth it. After my rest period, it's job hunting time. Sucks to be out of work :(

    Re: Post GENCON blah

I hate to admit it, but I get gamed out.  For the first week after I get home, I don't even want to look at a game, let alone play one.  I also want to get in my kitchen and cook.  All that eating out wears on me and all I want is a home cooked meal.

I miss GenCon!! Can't wait till 2009. I am (so far) avoiding the blues by just looking forward to next year. See you all then!

GenCon is only one of the conventions I attend every year, which is the result of having those post-GenCon blues in years past.

Having other conventions to look forward to within a couple months keeps me from having "withdrawal" symptoms.

yeah it seems that this year in particular all the junk food has made me sick. I usually stick to a regime of home cooked food and lots of water. At the con it was nothing but junk food and soda.. ::sighs:: I do miss the con though i can't believe it's already been a week that it has come to pass... Maybe this year i will go to all types of conventions to keep my mind busy...
