    "Next Year, I Resolve To..."

Seeing all the posts about the experiences people had this year got me thinking about the things I wanted to make a point of doing next year. What are somethings the were so good that you need to do them again, or that you missed this year that you simply must do at GenCon 2009?

    Next Year, I Resolve To...

    • Play True Dungeon for the first time: I seem to have been adopted by a great group of people that seem willing to show a n00b how it's done. I don't have an excuse not to give it a try any more.
    • Wear a Costume Every Day: It was a great feeling to show up at a 7th Sea RPG in a leather doublet. I've never felt so comfortable nor seen so much cool fancy dress. This is the time to wear the fun stuff and let the geek flag fly.
    • Buy a Utilikilt: The victim of an ill fitting kilt this year, I resolve to buy something that's long enough for future costumes or regular use. I fell off a hassock at the Spy Bar trying to be dainty. Just easier to stand.
    • Play a Demo: I hovered, I watched, but I just didn't leave myself the time. I think I missed enjoying a few great sessions.
    • Not Schedule a Game at 8:00 am Saturday or Sunday: I'm just too likely to be up late socializing the night before. I was quite bummed to miss a couple this year and it's not right to take up a ticket that someone else could use.
    • Play a Few More Board Games: I had a great time playing Zombies! and Killer Bunnies this year, and my wife enjoyed her game of Trailer Park Wars. It's a great way to spend a couple of hours.
    • Play at Least one RPG I Haven't Played Before: 7th Sea was a first time for me and I enjoyed learning a new system. A great way to get fresh ideas for whatever I'm running back home

What are your resolutions for next year?

...Buy a bidder's pass in the auction. I watched the auction for a few hours Saturday night, and was in the auction store a couple of times throughout the con. I thought about getting a bidder's pass when I kept seeing bulk lots of Pokemon cards going for (sometimes) as little as 2 or 3 bucks, but then I didn't think I could trust myself to spend my money wisely. Next year, however, I am definitely going to take part.

Hmmm, I think the #1 thing on my to do list for next year will be to try and catch the hentai dubbing now that I know about it.  I'm not a big anime person so I didn't even look at that section, but I do enjoy hentai, as does the hubby.

#2 will be to actually make it to Killer Breakfast and not stay up too late the night before. Surprise

#3 will be something to do with Cthulu.

     I resolve to:

    1. Do True Dungeon as always. We have so much money sunk into tokens that if I don't do a run it'd be like flushing money down the toilet. Plus I always have a great time doing it!

    2. Get there early enough to do the KFG wednesday gaming and maybe even run something.

    3. Pay my hug debts off. So many forumites have been awesome to me I feel the need to go on a Pooka Hug spree.

Don't take life so seriously, it's not permanent.

Re: "Next Year, I Resolve To..."

Last year was my first Gencon and after a whirlwind 4 days I was able to recuperate and think of things for this year -

Do True Dungeon, Go to the Artists section, Do some Cthulhu games, Try some White Wolf Games, See the Costume Contest.  I managed to do all but the Costume Contest, but did see the Parade so I'm pretty satisfied with it.

Next year, my goals are pretty minimal - try WEGS and something like Blackmoor or 7th Sea.  True Dungeon is not a Must Do since I'm not entrenched in stuff, but if I do it I wanna bring my violin to play in the dungeon - nothing like a bard with a real instrument. Big Smile

Hear hear! Of course, if you want to beef up  your immune system, you could eat things like apples, honey, and garlic (but not all together, lol)

I resolve to have more work done so that I can get my own plans into action for a con.

Re: "Next Year, I Resolve To..."

I resolve to try and get to know other gamers staying at the same hotel better. At the Hilton this year my little group would be outside smoking and another group would be out there and somehow we never interacted. Next year I'm going to at least say hi in a situation like that.

I also resolve to not forget when event registration goes live so I stand a chance at getting TD tickets. ;)

Next year: I resolve to get a hotel, at least for Friday and Saturday nights.  Its such a drag to have to go home when you get tired.  Next year I wanna watch anime at 3 a.m. in my pajamas, dammit!

Next year, I resolve to watch Ripley watch anime in her pajamas at 3 a.m. ROFL

(Sure, like I'll even be concious at 3 a.m., I barely make it to midnight as it is...  *sigh*)

Next year, I resolve to allow myself more free time to wander, and to do the paint and take again.  I know I missed a lot this year, as I spent most of my free time cruising through the dealer hall and only stopping at booths that caught my eye, rather than taking time to look at things more carefully.

Not sure I'll get to go next year; got a baby coming in December.  If I do get to go I resolve to play in more games and maybe talk to some people.  I take a while to warm up to people and come out of my shell.  Playing games helps with this.

1.)Try as many games made by indie companies as I can fit in the the schedule. Had a great time trying a couple of rpgs I'd never heard of this year, Victoriana was awesome.

    2.)Remember to bring my camera.

3.)Spend more time in the bar below the Union Station.

4.)Not get so plowed in in the RAM I miss my first event.

     -Get a connected hotel, goshdarnit.

-Try some new systems (looking at you, Call of Cthulhu....)

-Try a costume? I could make a pretty awesome Punisher costume, but that would involve shaving my sideburns off for a few days, and the likeliness of girlfriend-flippage is pretty high.

-Hit the Auction again! Seriously, the Auction is so much fun, I wonder if it should be legal......

Leave at least 12 hours earlier....

Leaving Wed afternoon, and almost not getting a room for the night when we arrived was definitely a downer...   I think I'll try to leave Tue. Late night/Wed. early AM...

    1. Drink more beer.

    2. Try at least a few different game systems.

    3. Wear a costume. Thinking of Renaissance-style dress or something.

    4. Try True Dungeon (I think most posted this one).

    5. Demo a few new games.

    6. Take more pictures.

    7. Bring more money.

Re: "Next Year, I Resolve To..."

     1) Buy new shoes a month before the Con, not a few days

    2) Equip a third person in the costume contest audience with a video camera since having 2 still failed to record our Young Frankenstein Putting on The Ritz number and we are planning something more comical for next year.

    3) Schedule less games and do more demos at dealer's booths. (Really is a great way to discover new stuff.)

    4) Never do characters from a black and white movie ever again.

    5) Bring the girlfriend>

Sign up for the stink earlier so I can attend.

Be more active on the forums, throughout the year.

Get into a late night game of Werewolf.
