    Crossplay! Girl needs help

Okay, a (female) friend and I both intend to dress as boys next year for our costumes. And since well, we ARE girls, how would we go about flattening our chests? One of my friends used ducttape once (OWCH!) and said "NONONO! Don't use it!!". Anyone have ideas?

Honestly, duct tape! Or a tight Ace Bandage.

We had a well-endowed girl in Fiddler playing a boy, and we had to duct tape her down. Maybe put some plastic wrap over your skin, then the duct tape on that?

    Sorry!

But back on topic, how about using plastic wrap?  You could wrap it tightly without the sticky issue.

Wait, there goes the drooling again...

    Re: Crossplay! Girl needs help

I'd personally go for one of the slightly wider ace bandages wraps.

Find the middle of the roll, and start at the middle of your bustline. Work one half up, and one half down to reasonably even out. If you're not very busty it shouldn't be much work.

To help mask, you may want to pad your ribcage some below your bust. By increasing it's dimension it creates less contrast with the bustline. Guys are more linear so it helps also trick the eye into seeing less curve.

You may also need to pad the shoulders in your costumess as guys are fuller in through the shoulders.

Guys carry weight in through the legs differently than women, so you may want to get a pair of control top hoisery to help smoothen out curvy hips.

I am sorry but hiding bosoms is a crime against humanity.  This must be stopped!

Duct tape is what we use in theatre. It sounds like your friend only used duct tape and not much underneath - that's the painful way of doing things. Wear a sports bra or wrap a piece of cloth around you to provide a barrier between the duct tape and your skin. If you don't, the tape will actually "burn" your skin. Then wrap the duct tape as tight as possible. Girls with smaller chests can usually get away with ace bandages. However, if you have anything more, I'd really recommend the duct tape. It won't feel great to smush you in like that, but it will work.

Being a guy, I cannot speak from experience. Though I hear a smaller sized sports bra can help. Also I hear (and can assume such) no matter what you do, it's not going to be comforable.

Just to be on the safe side you should put on the sports bra, wrap that in plastic wrap, then finish it off with some duct tape... j/k.

I'll definately try these tips. Thank you! And I'm already fairly broad in the sholders, at least for a girl, so I'm fairly sure I'm okay in THAT department.

And sometimes it IS best for ample bosoms to be hid so it can be a "SURPRISE!" kinda thing, so ha! :)

I'm what the call "ample" and let me just say, Ace bandages don't work. At all. A small sportsbra will kill you by the end of the day digging into you.

The idea of saran wrap and  duct tape is probably your best. Along with putting some quilting batting on your stomach/waist area to camo that a bit.

I've had sports bras that have been too small and am going the whole day at schoo, "Need.... Air!...Can't.... BREATH!"

I'll keep everything in mind and try out as many different things too. Hopefully I'll be able to figure it out so I know which patterns to pick out!

    Exactly!

Another Idea, read while looking around a lumbar support can work for larger chests to help

    Doing reasearch I found wikihow.com/Crossplay. This is something they have to say;

  • WOMEN: Be aware of how tightly you are binding. Too tight of a binding is not only uncomfortable, but can hinder breathing or leave bruises. NEVER use ductape or tape to bind, as you may rip off skin when you unbind at the end of the day.
  • Check out the site, it actually has a lot of helpful information! ^^

I'd suggest you test out the different methods and see what is best for your build and comfort.

Once you know what your going with with then you'll be able to make the costume so it fits better. Cause if you base the measurements off of your normal build vs. your layered build  it may not fit as well.

And don't worry about getting them 100% out of site. Do the best within your body's limits, and let imagination do the rest.

Remember cosplay is part imagination too. If you walk up to someone and you tell them your cosplaying a guy and their responce is, "but you have boobs, " then they're not a cosplayer.
