    Event Suggestion: Tour Guides

I dunno where to put this... but what would be cool for next year are tour guides for the new people that either show up by themselves or their friends are busy doing something else.

It could be either ran by GenCon or someone else. To volunteer to be a tour guide you should have to have at least 5 years of GenCon under your belt, two of which should be GenCon Indy (for local knowledge). Could even have a test for the tour guides.

Just a suggestion, what do you all think?

The Gamer wenches ran such an event last year, and I think it went very well.

In 2007 we did offer this and it had a pretty good turn out on Thursday morning.  I designed a quick walk around to familiarize people with different parts of the convention center.  We took small groups around with two guides each and answered questions at the end.

Just out of curiosity how come it didn't happen this year?

We didn't have enough Wenches who were able to do it. Sherry was busy doing other things, so she wasn't able to organize it like in 2007. Maybe we can bring it back next year. This year I stepped back from being as active in the Wenches due to other things going on, I'm hoping to get back in full swing for 2009.

Just blame John. Big Smile  He kept asking where you were at at the con.  I think he was disapointed he didn't get to see you there.

What a great idea.  I do hope something like this can be done in years to come.

It would be a nice way to introduce people to GenCon, as it can be an overwhelming experience.

I myself was lucky, in that I attended for the first few years with friends who had attended before, so they were able to help me get used to everything.

That does sound like fun!  And now that I'm an official Wench I can say that I'd be glad to help! :)

My five year old daughter has five imaginary zombie friends, Luc, Zuc, Zac, Crispy, and Leaky. When holding tea parties, she's always sure to have brains on hand. Should I be concerned?

Plans right now include a trip back for 2009. So if you bring this back, I could probably do a tour or two. (Only 3 cons but all Indy if that helps.)
