    Mall Parking going Up

    From today's IBJ

Mall parking gets pricier September 4, 2008

    Posted by cschouten , trackback

Circle Centre Mall Indianapolis parkingThe operators of Circle Centre’s parking garages have raised rates in a move designed to ensure spaces are available for shoppers and to bring in additional revenue. The new rates maintain the baseline of $1.50 for up to three hours, but guests who stay longer than three hours are seeing prices jump as much as 60 percent. Between three and four hours now costs $4, up from $3. Four to five hours run $8, up from $5. And five to six hours jumped to $12, from $8. Six to twelve hours go for $15, up from $12. The city owns one garage and Simon Property Group owns two others, but the city owns the property under all of them. The city puts the revenue from its World of Wonders garage toward debt service on incentives it gave to the developers of the Conrad Hotel. The garage spits out a guaranteed $600,000 per year, plus 85 percent of excess revenue. The rate hike was authorized in the original agreement with Simon and garage manager Denison Parking.

    Thanks for the information, Keeper!

This sort of thing makes me even more happy I just go ahead and use the valet parking service at whatever hotel I am staying at for GenCon.

I guess it's a good thing I don't mind walking a bit when in Indy, as there are lots of open-air parking lots for $5 or less, even during the con, and that's for all day parking. Plus, during the con itself, I'd just as easily accept getting dropped off on Weds. and picked up on Sunday like I did this year, so I didn't have to worry about the car at all - took a great pressure off my mind.

'Free Parking' is only in Monopoly

I blame this increase on WoodForSheep2.0's sneakiness.

Well, I don't shop there much, and when I do it isn't for long. I think this will hurt the movie theater, though, because whereas previously it wasn't a big deal if you were at a movie for 3+ hours (almost inevitable these days), now it stings a little bit. Won't hurt sneaky con goers who "lost" their ticket, though Cool

When you use the Circle Center Mall parking lot like I do on Wednesday's, the day before Gencon, see a movie at the United Artists - they validate their parking..................provided with this increase that they still do that.....................

Very interesting. I haven't seen a movie there in probably 8 years, so I guess I'm a little out of date. Back when they opened, I don't think they did validation.
