    DMing for RPGA event

I am wanting to volunteer to be a DM for the RPGA events next year at GenCon.  I contacted the RPGA and they told me I had to contact GenCon LLC.  I am hoping there is someone on this forum that can help me figure out what I need to do and who to contact to make this happen.

    Re: DMing for RPGA event

You'll want to contact them again - if you want to run an RPGA event at Gen Con (or anywhere), you need to talk to the RPGA directly and coordinate with them.

If you just want to run a general RPG game, then you can talk to us and submit the event as normal, but it won't be listed as an RPGA game or be placed in the RPGA hall.

Thanks Derek.  I will contact the RPGA again.  That is who I emailed initially and they told me something different.  I will give it another try.

To be a DM (Judge) for the RPGA you need to be certified first.  I'm assuming you're a member of the RGPA.  Have you taken the test to become a judge yet?  If not then look into how to become a judge (I haven't been active in rpga for a few years now so not sure what the current test is on).

Here's the info page on it: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=rpga/gmprogram/welcome

    Re: DMing for RPGA event

Last time I checked, it was still 3.5.  I'm supposed to try and take it today...if I'm not too busy squashing Order first.  WAAAGH!

Need to run some RPGA games and play in a few to get some levels.  Looking forward to that Weekend in the Realms game next month.

    Re: DMing for RPGA event

I finally got certified, and did it with 4.0. It was not a difficult test, but did require the books, unless your memory was perfect. With the books, it's a piece of cake--I got a perfect score.

    Re: DMing for RPGA event

There is a new, 4th edition test for judge certification, but it has been said that if you were certified under the 3rd/3.5 test, you're good.

    Re: DMing for RPGA event

Sher, to answer your question, yes, I am certified.  The current test is 4th edition although you can still take a 3.5 edition test if you would like.  Overall, the test is easy if you have the books or you have a great memory.  I took the test the first time without the books and only scored a 40%.  I did much better with the books  :-)

Thank you all for your help.  I sent the RPGA a third message yesterday.  They finally got back to me saying they screwed up and it is really them that I should be talking to.  Of course, not until we get closer to GenCon 2009  :-)

    Re: DMing for RPGA event

See nobody ever asks me anything anymore. LOL

Yes I am not even thinking about Gencon 2009 yet. Well I am, a little, but only when Derek is not looking. I have two other shows to plan and deal with between now and then. I will be the person handling all the RPGA stuff at Gencon (again - and Sagamore Ballroom is ours - assault it if you dare we shall beat you all). So if you are interested in keeping to date on RPGA shows I run head to

    http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/daveshows/?yguid=315694034

I announce all shows on that list (and I am the only one who can post to it - so very few emails per year). It is the best way to keep up to date with what is going on.

Wavester, thanks for the link.  I will keep checking it periodically to see when the call for GenCon DM volunteers is made.
