  • Hard candy/throat lozenges (to prevent the inevitable drymouth)

Rule book of the day (depends on what's being played)

Portable power (takes 2 AA batteries and I have tips for both the camera and cell charger ports...best $20 you'll ever spend) or extra batteries

Blank Business Cards (What can I say, sales habit and they're handy for jotting down contact information to give to others)

Whatever is in your backpacks, please keep them small and remember that you're carrying them (i.e. you're bigger than you normally are).

Far too many unobservant people toting giant packs/dragging luggage through the exhibit hall knocking into everyone.

True, but that's not what this thread is for.  Big Smile

    Keep on topic please.

Re: It's the "What's in Your Backpack" list

Tylenol or aleve or whatnot. pencils, pens, dice, rulebook of the session, water, crystal light tea packets, spare change, poster tube(started this last year after reading a suggestion here), some spare feminine products justincase(not only for me, but for if someone else forgets because gosh does THAT ever suck), calculator, nail clippers.

And to avoid the whole backpack clonking folks on the head I've begun using a messenger bag. It's easier to tuck under an arm and I can swap shoulders if necessary, though I tend not to carry THAT much.

  • Binder with plastic sleeves for holding swag promos and the possible autograph(s)
  • I LOVE these two!  After 28 years of gaming, why have I not thought of these???

    Anyway....in my backpack I'll carry:

    • D&D 4e PH (and a small folder with my RPGA characters)
    • Some dice, figs for my PC's, a couple pencils, a pen, and a highlighter..all in a small pouch
    • Water bottle
    • Snacks (& perhaps lunch...depending on schedule)
    • camera (and perhaps cell phone...I don't know if I want to be "reachable" yet)
    • If there's rain...a small umbrella or plastic trashbag to guard my gear from getting wet

Well, that's all I can think of for now, but I WILL check back on this topic to see what others come up with to add to my list.

    Great topic!

I usually carry a clipboard or something like that for gaming/writing purposes.  Also a small ruler and a cheap calculator. like the $1.99 dollar store variety.

In may back are usually the following things:

    • Rule books. Usually D&D 4E PHB, Campaign setting, a splat book or two if needed.
    • Binder with character sheets, mechanical pencils, pen, pad of graph paper, RPGA campaign cards
    • Dice bag (I carry way too many dice)
    • Figs for my PCs
    • Snacks: granola bars, Pop Tarts, trail mix
    • Water bottle
    • Camera
    • Hand sanitizer, Tylenol, Tums, Gas X. You never know when you will need this stuff.

lol, well worth the read.  I hadn't thought about the prescription stuff so thank you.  Where's the nearest eye glasses/contact replacement option in the downtown area?

For you judges, marshalls, etc...several years back when I used to run a game at the con, I'd be sure to have chloraseptic sore throat spray( for when it got really bad), and Halls eucalyptis on hand. After a day or 2 of straining your voice trying to be heard in loud areas , both these items can be a huge help.

Re: It's the "What's in Your Backpack" list

    • Camera / rechargable batteries / charger
    • Cell Phone / charger
    • Notebook, pens/pencils
    • Bandaids, tylenol
    • Program Book
    • Business cards
    • One of those cloth reusable shopping bags (fold down into basically nothing, and are GREAT when you need an extra place to put purchases, swag, etc.)
    • Bottled Water or some other drink in one of the side mesh pockets
    • DS (for random meetups, or times waiting in line for the dealer's hall to open, etc.) / charger

I'm sure there will be more, but those are all my must-haves for right now. And I really like the small poster tube idea. Might have to do that this year.
