I will be happy to do this again, of course not sure hours yet :)

I assume GC are donating a shared booth again?

We will figure out hours once event schedules are out and people have their schedules.  As for the booth, I don't know the details yet, but I don't believe we are sharing this year. However, I don't know that for fact.

Re: GfH booth at Gen Con

Time for commitment folks, what volunteers do I have to man the Gen Con booth?

We will have a large enough booth to have 2 people at a time in the booth. From last year, I can tell you, having 2 people is great news!  People seem to come in groups, so you're either have a small breather or you're covered with people asking questions, wanting to donate, or purchase a T-shirt, etc.

I am looking for people to cover:

    Thursday 10am - 6pm
    Friday 10am - 6pm
    Saturday 10am - 6pm
    Sunday 10am - 4pm

Last year, Tom J and I handled opening the booth and closing the booth each day. I can't speak for Tom, but I will assume that that will be covered again.  Remember if you're volunteering for the booth, bring your smiles and be ready to talk to people as they stop by.  I will provide you with some information ahead of time, and I'll always be just a phone call away if anything comes up.  Please consider volunteering. Gen Con is wonderful about giving us booth space, we just need to man it...not too much to ask!

Please post here if you can volunteer and also give an idea of your available times.  I would like to do at least a 2 hour shift, but longer shifts would be appreciated. This year, I am avoiding 1 hour shifts as they caused too many scheduling turnover.

Aemirai, I know right now, I am planning to cover the booth Thursday from time it opens until Noon.  I'm trying to cover all the times with at least 1 person first, then add the 2nd person, so could you come in at noon? If so, just tell me when you would like relieved.

Nothing is finalized, so I can't give news on the booth just yet. But I will bump the thread and say...We are going to need a LOT More Volunteers!

Let me know if you can give us a couple of hours to talk with people, accept donated games, help people with questions, etc. You might just find yourself volunteering at the coolest booth of Gen Con '09 Surprise

Lisa, put me down for 12-2 sunday. I want to try longer, and if I can I will but I have to make sure I leave time to get my stuff out of the hotel room.

Re: GfH booth at Gen Con

Ok, ready to hear about the cool Gamers for Humanity booth?!

Gen Con has generously given GfH a huge booth area for this year! We don't have the booth number yet, but as soon as I receive it, I will post it here.  The booth is going to be huge! We will have a habitat for Humanity structure, crafts going on for local charities, new/gently used game drive for local shelters, and a good contest to win prizes!

So, how can you help? I'm glad you asked!

    1) Craft supplies:  GfH is looking for donations for markers, crayons, school glue, Popsicle sticks (clean ones used for crafts, not the ones you just ate the Popsicle from, please), pipe-cleaners, stickers, foam stickers, etc.

If you have any of these items that you could donate, please contact me at Lisa (at) gamersforhumanity.org right away!

     2) Booth Workers:  We will need at least 2 volunteers at the booth at all times that the dealer hall is open. Based on the space we have to cover, adding a 3-4 volunteer wouldn't be unreasonable, but we are going to start recruiting at 2 people.

The current booth schedule is as follows:

    Thursday:
    10am - 12pm - TygerLily & TomJ
    12pm - 2pm - Aemirai
    2pm - 4pm - Galen
    4pm - 6pm - TygerLily, LARPrincess, & TomJ (4-5pm)

    Friday:
    10am - 12pm - MommaMelG & TygerLily
    12pm - 2pm - TomJ
    2pm - 4pm - TomJ
    4pm - 6pm -Galen & LARPrincess

    Saturday:
    10am - 12pm - TomJ
    12pm - 2pm - Cali59 & TomJ
    2pm - 4pm - ATStepChild, Cali59, & TomJ
    4pm - 6pm - ATStepChild

    Sunday:
    10am - 12pm - MommaMelG & TomJ
    12pm - 2pm - KatsObession
    2pm - 4pm - Mom2LoveBugs & Dad2LoveBugs?

If you have said that you can help, but not giving me set times, please review your schedule and contact me. Email is the best way, but PM here or posting will get to me eventually.  When selecting a shift, please keep in mind your travel time and when you need to eat. We would like people to arrive to the booth either right on time or preferably early and not leave until your shift is over.

    Thank you so very much!

    Bumping the thread

As you can see, we still have several spots open.  If you want to volunteer and can give us a number of hours, we do have some badges available.  We are looking for 3-4 people who can volunteer for 8-10 hrs or more. We will provide them with a free badge.  Housing and travel is not included.  So if you know someone who wants to come to Gen Con, will be personable and friendly as a booth worker, and has a place to stay, but short on money for the badge, contact me!

Re: GfH booth at Gen Con

Just a reminder on those interested to work the Gamers for Humanity booth. GenCon went WAY out of their way and hooked us up big time. I realize most people can't make the trip to New Orleans with us between travel, lodging and time off. This is a good way to help out with available time throughout the week without killing vacation or finances. If you might be interested in going on our reconstruction (or in my case, destruction) trip(s), contact us and we'll keep in touch. We have tons of slots to fill, especially with all the extra space we have to work with.

(I thought you said Jose would be manning the booth also or am I mistaken?)

Quote from Dragons of the Dwarven Depths, p259 ... Tas and Tanis talking after Tas says a prayer for the massacred Gully Dwarves.
"It was good of you to think of that," said Tanis. "None of the rest of us did."
"You're busy thinking big things," said Tas. "I keep track of the small stuff."
