Moto GP back in Indy for 2014

For those hoping that the Moto GP would not be renewed next year, you are out of luck. It was announced today that it will be back for at least one more year and I believe it's on the same weekend as GenCon again.

    Doh!

Well, at least there's a chance we won't overlap in 2015 and  a couple years after when Gen Con dates move forward to July 30.

Friday night a bunch of Nascraggers wandered over to Claddagh for a drink. It was around 1:30 in the morning. Meridian street could only be described one way - Thunderdome! It was nuts.

I did notice that the bikers gave up about 2:00 or 2:30. We kept going until 3:00. Gamers Win! Two groups enter, one group leaves!

Kinda glad, personally, since it means I'll see my sister and brother-in-law. I fly into Indy for GenCon, they drive into Indy to see MotoGP, and we meet up.

I kinda like the biker event also. I stay the Crowne and the bikes don't bother me at all; if I'm tired, I sleep, no matter what.

I enjoy looking at the different bikes and most every biker I've interacted with has been just as cool explaining their hobby as we are ours.

Even with Gencon's sliding weekends, it is the same time again? That in unfortunate. Oh well, I don't think it was a bad this year as last. Maybe I was expecting worse.

Stayed at the opposite end of the center and still had complaints about the bikes making noise. Well, not so much as the bikes but the people riding the nosiest things at 4 AM...

Throw in some wit and sarcasm here and ramblings of kitties.

Terrible year for us. The last two years I have wondered why Indy allows one group of people to make so much noise that people staying in area hotels cannot sleep. It makes me especially mad considering how much we pay in hotel taxes to the city itself. The people themselves are fine, but the noise (and how late it goes) is crazy. Ah well, here's to another year trying to get a hotel room far away from Meridian (and hopefully succeeding this time).

Re: Moto GP back in Indy for 2014

Its not just the noise.  There were several times when crossing the street between Hyatt and CC, that when traffic was clear and we were crossing, a biker saw a clear street and no cops, so he went whipping around the corner to test how quickly his rice-burner can go 0-60.  One was a semi-close call.

I saw the headline in the Indy paper during the con that the Moto-GP might move out of Indy, and was hoping it would be the case.  I don't know what the official attendance is from this year, but Gencon seems to be only getting bigger every year.  Indy might like to have two big events that weekend, but doesn't need them.

The bikes are interesting and the MotoGP isn't the problem. The problem is Bikes on Meridian and trying to stay at a hotel in the area. Where did you stay and how much interaction did you have with their event?

The speedway never releases official attendance figures for their events as it is a privately owned family business but Curt Cavin (sports writer for the local paper) estimated the crowd at the actual race as 50,000. Now he also does a daily "ask the expert" column where people write in with questins and he answers them. Today people are saying he is being far too generous with that number and they think it should be more like 35,000 or 40. He admits it is just a guess he gave and that it might be a little generous but he does base it upon past experience and conversation with others trying to do the same thing.

Exactly my issue.  I have no problem allowing the MotoGP get to gether, but for god sake, have it somewhere where it is NOT right next to hotels!  Either that, or make it a DAY event only.  not at night.

From what I heard from a considerable source, GenCon 2014 will be the week AFTER MotoGP. Guess we have to wait till we are closer to be sure.

That would be AWESOME except for anyone trying to sleep in those downtown hotels that weekend. It would still be awesome for me and that is what counts though. (I kid, I kid).

I wasn't mad about the people as much as I was the bikes parked in the center of pedestrian cross walks ( the ones with the bricks in the middle ) and hearing bikes speeding around 3-4 am. I can handle the revving but it gets really loud when a few guys want to jet by as quick as they can.

I had the best biker vs. gamer experience ever this year. Was walking down the street in my Khaleesi costume when a biker stopped me and asked if I was from Star Trek. I said "no, Game of Thrones," and he shrugged and said "same thing." best moment ever.

Stayed in the Hyatt this year, so very little noise.  The MotoGP people that were also there seemed bemused about all of us, but polite.

I was in the Canterbury and the bikes kept me awake until 2 or 3 in the morning.  If it's the same weekend I'm finding a different hotel.
