    2007 Hotel question

    Greetings,

Does anyone know when we can start reserving rooms for 2007? I have looked but can not find any information.

    Thanks

It won't be until ON or AFTER badge registration day. And that is usually in February.

But that's also for the Gen Con block.  You can always make reservations at their regular rates.

You can try, but lots of hotels are completely unavailable during that time, due to Gen Con blocks and others reserving the few nonblock rooms.  You'd have some luck in getting more outlying hotel reservations already.  If you wanted to stay far out.

If you want to stay at a hotel that is farther out, then you can most likely reserve now. But any hotel within walking distance, even near the airport all say unavaible.

Compared to event registration, I found hotel registration went /really/ well. I didn't get my first choice, but that will happen anyway. I was not at all frustrated by the hotel reg.

Event reg was a whole other story. And wow what a difference so-cal is. Weeks later and there're tickets available for about everything. Do people just not go to cons in November?

Hotel Reg isn't that bad. I got my choice of hotels, my second choice at least. And it's a great hotel and will be my default if we don't get the one we want next year.
I personally enjoy being close to the con, last year I had to run back and forth to change so I could volunteer at the Tavern.

actually I wasn't talking about "hotel registration". I was talking about. "It's 3 minutes into the first day of registration and the system exploded. (again) I can't get my code to get into the hotel reg site because I can't get through the badge system."

    Re: 2007 Hotel question

06 reg was different. They waited to give anyone the hotel code. So even if badge reg exploded, no one was left out of the hotel code. everyone had the same shot at hotels. Which also means if you waited a week (I did not) you had the same shot.

    Re: 2007 Hotel question

I didn't get my hotel code. I had to write them, and even then they didn't give it to me. I worked through it tho' and got a room, thanks to my friends. In fact I got my first choice. But I think it's easier to get a single. Next year should be interesting. I'm still going to play the 'GenCon Lottery', but will hopefully have some roommates. Rooms with more than one bed tend to go much much faster.

That would have definitely been a "nevermind, we won't be attending" moment for our group. But then again, we have already decided against going to the last two GC Indy events due to issues where we feel it's not good to reward GC/Indianapolis for the poor behavior of people associated with GC with our money. And it looks like their trying to score a trifecta with next summers GC.

    Re: 2007 Hotel question

I'm just curious what the price difference is between the Gencon block and the normal rates. Also, I would add that I have temporairly made reservations at two hotels that are within walking distance (one I stayed at last year that wasn't part of the housing block). I only plan on keeping them if the block prices are not cheaper, especially as these aren't the top hotels. One being the Homewood Suites, where I would likely stay if my friends all decide to go again, the other place that I found was the Hampton Inn, which is likely I would stay if I ended up not going with anyone else.

I've just never played the housing block game at a point in time that isn't about a month before the con, and I plan on trying it out at the beginning of things. Any help you guys can provide would be appreciated.

    Re: 2007 Hotel question

I just checked the Embassy Suites, which is where we usually stay.  For Military rate Wed through Sun in the same room we use for Gen Con - $245.

    During Gen Con - $189

    Just to give a comparison.

    Re: 2007 Hotel question

Just as an example of how flakey it can be I registered my room about 4 months in advance on the Embassys sites and got the room for some ridiculous rate of $169 or somthing, cheaper than the GenCon block , checked back a week later to make a small change and the rate had gone back to its normal $240+. Almost worth prowling there site over a few months :)

I am looking towards the gencon block this year.  I did not get my first choice completely in that I ended up with a king instead of two doubles and don't want that to happen next year.

I didn't get my reg key ever and my span filter did not eat the mail it just did not come.  I will be one of those chomping at the bit next year.

Actually you got it for $119.  That was a LOT lower than the Gencon rate.  And for that I am very thankful.  Big Smile  I keep looking at their site but they're not even showing rooms for next years dates at this point.

Odd, but at least for me, I have found that the Embassy Suites, and all the Hilton brand has rooms available already for next year.

Actually, I didn't see anything at Hilton Garden or Hitlon.  I did get an emergency room at the Conrad for $237
