.
_Day One:_

Family of Pirates--

me-Captain

dad-Bo'sun

son-2nd mate

older daughter- oldest daughter

youngest daughter- captive Englishwoman

.

_Day Two:_

Naruto and Japanese culture themes-

husband--Jiraiya (aka Pervy Sage)

son--Naruto

me- me

older daughter--Yandere girl (that is, cute little Anime schoolgirl gone psycho)

younger daughter--anime cat

.

My guess is that the girls will change into something else (genies? Goth loli? for the evening so they can watch anime at the Hyatt in more comfortable attire)

.

_Day Three:_

me--Capt. Sagin Komamura

husband--Capt. Kenpachi Zaraki

son--soul reaper (possibly Hanataro Hinamada, but we're working on the hair options still...)

daughter--Co Capt. Momo Hinamori

daughter 2--Co Capt. Yachiru Kusajishi

.

_Day Four:_

Steampunk theme for all of us...

Dh and myself are a married couple of explorers (dh in a very stylish Western-wear suit coat and myself in a pith helmet and bustle), while my son is some sort of soldier. Katie is in full steampunk with a striped long skirt and parasol. Genevieve is going as a genie (yeah, not so steam punk, but it's hard to do a 7 year old in the style well unless they are willing to do a street urchin... which she's not, lol!)

Re: What are YOU going as!
On Saturday, I am going as Robin Sena from Witch Hunter Robin and my 7 month old daughter is going as a level 1 goblin shaman. On the other days, my daughter will be the Green Lantern, the Orange Lantern (in onesie form) and will also wear a matching Hawaiian shirt with her father.
AwwwwwWWWwwww! I can't wait to see the little peanut! I love it when babies get incorporated into the costuming. :-D

Last year a woman came as a fairy with the cutest little >1 yr old on her back/shoulder as some sort of a sprite. Adorable!

Do you think that it would be possible for us to go in costume, change out, and then change back in for the parade/contest? I know it sounds crazy, but the costume covers you from head to toe, and we have some seminars and workshops that might make it hard to wear the things. I just don't want to be in full angel regalia for an entire day! Also, can you leave the actual convention center if you were going to change into costume or eat somewhere? Is that allowed? Thanks again for all of your tips- very much appreciated!
You could change out of your costume, but you'd probably have to do it in a washroom (although the women's rooms have large enough space that you could do this pretty easily). You could probably change out just after the initial judging as I'm sure you could access their green room at that time, for privacy. In fact, you might very well be able to leave your costume there for the couple of hours between judging and the parade or formal competition/stage show. If you have a change of clothing underneath the costume, you could just change out in any large hallway. If you can't use the green room to leave your costume, you could probably leave it downstairs in the anime hallway (same hotel building as the costume contest judging... or at least it has been in the past). There are many artists in the "alley" space who would probably be willing to keep an eyeball on things. Alternativey, there is an info booth that has always been located at the end of the anime hallway as well that might let you store it. We've never had *any* problems with leaving stuff tucked in a corner for a few hours (and that's for costumes, suitcases, shopping bags, you name it!)--whether in the main exhibit hallway, in the anime rooms, or in the kids' center. Theft is really a low risk occurence in the formal GenCon space. However, I would not make the same comment about the "outside" world of Indy.

You can leave the convention center at any and all times--whether or not in costume. We have stayed several blocks away from the con for the past several years (the hotel is quieter!) and then walked back and forth in full costume! We get lots of looks, but people on the street *love* seeing us in our get ups, even if they don't always get the reference (the pirates and the steampunk stuff gets lots of interplay with the crowd--and of course we totally ham it up--while the Bleach and Naruto themes are more appreciated for the work involved in the costuming). You will see tons of folks in Ren Faire get-ups, as space aliens, as anime cosplayers, etc at the local restaurants and bars over the weekend. Trust me, full costumes are not at all unusual over the Gen-Con weekend!
