Hi --

I'm a late addtion to the Gen Con program, but wanted to introduce myself. I'm a Boston-based gamer and writer for the New York Times and Boston Globe with a new book that's coming out September 1 from Globe Pequot/The Lyons Press. Called "Fantasy Freaks and Gaming Geeks: An Epic Quest for Reality Among Role Players, Online Gamers, and Other Dwellers of Imaginary Realms," the narrative non-fiction book is (what I hope is) a humorous, lively, and provocative blend of travelogue, pop culture analysis, and memoir.

And I'm kicking off my nationwide book tour at Gen Con.

At Gen Con, I'll be at the Troll Lord Games booth (# 221) meeting folks and selling and signing books. I'll also be giving two readings followed by two booksignings immediately following:

"Fantasy Freaks and Gaming Geeks" plumbs, explains and celebrates fantasy and gaming subcultures like Lord of the Rings, World of Warcraft, Harry Potter, the Society for Creative Anachronism, LARPS, and D&D.On a quest that begins in my own geeky teenage past and ends in our online gaming future, I ask gaming and fantasy geeks how they balance their so-called "escapist" urges with the kingdom of adulthood, crisscrossing America, the world, and other worlds—from Boston to Wisconsin, New Zealand to France, and Planet Earth to the realm of Aggramar. "When you wish upon a star..." is the title of our event this year, and is set in modern day Los Angeles. 
New comers are always welcome. In fact, the last two years, new players have been some of our best players. We will be having Vampire, Werewolf, Changeling(usually our largest group), and Mage (usually our largest group).  You may get dressed in to your favorite character, vampire, scruffy human that is really a werewolf, a wizard or a maybe a happy go lucky child of the Fae.

Seminar  AKA SEM
This is an introduction seminar on the rules and manners of White Wolf's classic World of Darkness LARP. As new LARP systems have come out we understand people are rusty or do not know the old system and we wish to help you learn it in preparation for "When you wish upon a star" This seminar is designed for beginners but could also serve as a refresher for the more experienced players.

The Game. AKA LRP.
All have heard the song "When you wish upon a star", but what if the arrival of a red star coincides with the return of an old foe? This event continues last year's classic World of Darkness game "The Last Stand". Players represent Kindred stuck in an endless revolution, Garou looking for a means to defeat the star, Mages vying for 2 sources of quintessence, or Fae struggling to protect their history. Will you still wish upon stars at the end?

G4 should cover Gen Con like the ComiCon TV coverage!

It really seems like a no-brainer for G4 to cover Gen Con.

A gaming TV show not covering the largest gaming convention in the country, what is wrong with this picture? Does anyone know why they have not done it before?

Attack of the Nerds Comedy Showcase Has Almost Sold Out!

Look Number 7 Entertainment's Attack of the Nerds Comedy Showcase has less than 40 seats left and GenCon Indy is only a month away!

One of "Attacks" featured comedians is Dave Hyden. Dave, or "Alpha Nerd" as he likes to be called has been performing his brand of smart, cynycl brand of comedy all over United States. One recent boost to his career was being cast in the winning "Crash the Superbowl" Dorito's commercial.

What is the EASIEST game to run at GenCon?

You guessed it, Morton's List!

No board to set up - the convention center/real world IS the "board"
No characters to create/pass out - the players ARE the "characters"
No adventure to think up - just sit back and let fate/chance/Karma do its thing!

Just fast, easy, pure fun

It only takes witnessing/participating in one game to qualify you to run a game with the help of a senior Table Master and after that on your own. All you do is explain the simple rules and walk the players through the initial stages until they determine their random activity. Then off they go!

We're running a light schedule of 17 games (see below) and have space for about 4 more volunteers.

So what does The SuperiCore Group give volunteers for their much appreciated service?

Having issues buying event tickets

I'm not sure if this is a repeat question, and I appologize if so. I keep getting error messages every time I proceed to checkout, claiming my credit card is typed in wrong or I don't have funds. Well, my card is right here and I've done this about three times now and it's still not taking. My online banking shows I have more than enough, and I still can't get the darn thing to work. My boyfriend even tried his card and the same error pops up.

Is there something I'm missing here? All my billing and credit information is very much so correct and funds are good to go, but I'm declined. This is my first time buying event tickets so I could very well be doing something silly during this process--but I assume this is like any other online checkout service...

I left an email with the gencon event team, and I tried calling customer service but they were closed--and never mentioned what the hours of operation were. I've asked countless gencon friends and they said they never have issues like this. I know I can hopefully hear back from the gencon team tomorrow, but I won't be able to access my email or call customer service until after 5pm tomorrow, and some events only have a handful of tickets left.

I would just like any help or feedback on my situation, or if you have experienced similar problems so I know I'm not the only one having this issue :(
